Also, let it be said that this is kind of AU. Some things from cannon can be seen, but most of this is from my head and doesn't follow the stuff that's happened at the end of season two at all.

Starting back at McKinley was surprisingly easy. Sure, Noah and Kurt got looks in the hallway, and there was occasional name-calling, but it was nothing like it had been for Kurt before he transferred. Part of that was because he and Karofsky had come to a quiet sort of understanding. Karofsky apologized, and Kurt kept his secret and silently hoped for him to find someone to make him happy.

Azimio was behaving himself physically, after being threatened by Coach Beiste. He still ran his mouth, but he started to do that less as his best friend Karofsky didn’t take part or even seem to appreciate it anymore.

Kurt was thrilled to be back with New Directions and enjoying getting the chance to actually get to know Sam and Lauren. Things were great for the pair. Noah healed and was back on the football field in no time. They didn’t fight, they didn’t have any troubles in the world until it came time to apply for colleges. That began the World War Three fighting in the Hudson-Hummel household.

They had just finished a Friday night dinner at the end of October, that Kurt and Carole had cooked, enjoying the company of Bubbe and Sarah. Once they had gone and Finn, Burt and Noah were on clean-up duty, Kurt brought down a folder of college packets and applications. When he began telling Noah about all the places he should be applying is when shit began to fall apart.

Kurt was determined to go to New York. Noah had been thinking about State Schools and schools with huge sports programs. Kurt argued and pled with Noah about staying in Ohio. Noah stated it would be cheaper and he’d be closer to Sarah. Kurt argued that getting a good education would be best for Sarah in the long run. Noah called Kurt stuck-up for thinking a state school couldn’t give him a good education.

Burt finally had to break them apart and they were sent to their separate rooms to cool off. Each day, Kurt would offer another school for Noah that would be good, and Noah would argue that it was his decision. Every day there were arguments about it. The one time Finn spoke up and said he was planning to go to Ohio State, Kurt threatened to rip his testicles off. Finn stayed out of it after that.

In the end, just before Thanksgiving, after three weeks of constant fighting, arguing, and harsh words, Carole was the one to offer a solution. She sat them both down and had them each pick their top three schools that they wanted to apply to. Kurt chose Binghamton University SUNY, Columbia, and New York University. Noah chose Bowling Green, Kent State, and Ohio State University. Kurt rolled his eyes, but Carole spoke before he could say anything.

“Now, each of you pick two schools you think the other should apply to.” They looked at her like she’d grown another head. “Just do it,” she sighed.

“University of Cincinnati and Baldwin-Wallace,” Noah stated first.

Kurt didn’t make eye contact with his boyfriend when he answered, “Syracuse and Julliard.”

“Are you-”

“No. These are the five schools you are each applying to. You can fight about where you’re actually going after you’ve received answers from them. This way, you can see what happens, see what they can offer you financially, and then decide together. Like adults. No more of this arguing, okay?”

Both boys nodded, appropriately chastised, and Carole nodded, kissed both of them on the head, and left to find Burt in the living room.

“Are you crazy? You think I should apply to Julliard?” Noah asked, incredulous.

“I’ve been thinking about it a lot, I just didn’t know what you’d say. Noah, you’re incredibly talented. You can sing, play guitar, piano, ukulele, and freaking accordion! Yeah, Sarah told me about that one. I just think you should at least give it a shot. You think sports is what’s going to get you into school and get you a scholarship, but you’re a million times more talented with music. Just- give it a shot? The worst they can do is say no.”

Noah kissed his boyfriend softly, “I’ll apply, but don’t get your hopes up babe.”

Kurt nodded and Noah took the different applications, looking at them. He smirked when he said, “I can play bass and drums too.”

Kurt gaped, “Seriously where did you come from?”

The next day Burt and Carole gifted each of the three boys with $150 to pay for applications. “Any more than that and you boys are using your money from the shop, got it?”

They all nodded quickly in agreement, happy to have gotten some of the money for the applications. All three boys sat together, filling out applications and helping one another with them. Since Finn and Quinn had broken up, Kurt was even able to convince Finn to apply to a state school in New York, “In case you do manage to win back Rachel…” Finn blushed but filled out the application.

Things were much less tense after their applications were in the mail, and just in time for Kurt to get wound up about the holidays. He dragged Noah to the mall with him to buy presents and decorations. “Don’t you guys already have decorations at your house?” Noah asked in the car.

Kurt gave him his you’re-an-idiot look and answered, “For Christmas, yes. But this will be our first Hanukkah.”

“Wait, you’re gonna celebrate Hanukkah?”

“What kind of boyfriend would I be if I oppressed your cultural traditions? Especially after Mr. Schuester made you and Rachel be a part of his Christmas Caroling last year with no thought to your personal religious backgrounds.”

“But- you’re an atheist.”

“Well yes, but my dad, and now Carole and Finn are not. I simply view Christmas as a time to get together with your friends and family and remind them how much you care. Hanukkah is much the same. All holidays tend to come down to spending time with important people. And eating. I support that idea, even without believing in the religious themes behind it. Besides, nowadays, most holidays are completely commercialized anyway and half the children celebrating them haven’t even heard of the religious aspects.”

“I see you’ve thought about this.”

“I have. And I’ve found an amazing latke recipe I can’t wait to try. You can help me figure out anything else we need for it. And of course, we’ll invite Sarah and Bubbe.”

With that, Noah trailed into the mall behind his overly excited boyfriend to find a menorah, candles, Dreidels, and decorations. He laughed the entire time, secretly loving that his boyfriend would do all of that for him.

The first night of Hanukkah, Sarah and Bubbe came over to eat and light the menorah. Bubbe took the role of explaining the history of Hanukkah, the miracle of the lights. Finn thought it was a cool story, and Burt and Carole sat quietly with matching smiles, holding hands. Sarah sang in Hebrew while Noah lit the candles, then they sat around and Noah taught them how to play with dreidels. Finn was confused by the game, and Kurt just laughed, seeing how cutthroat his boyfriend was about winning it.

When the candles had almost burnt out, everyone gave each other small gifts. Most of them were handmade, toys, or candy. Kurt had read online that the gifts traditionally started out small and got bigger as the eight days progressed. The Hudson-Hummels had agreed that Hanukkah gifts would remain small and the bigger gifts saved for Christmas, which was later in the month.

The next six nights, Kurt lit the candles while Noah sang the traditional Hebrew prayer. Kurt smiled, “You have the most beautiful voice.”

“Are you going to come to Bubbe’s with me tomorrow for the last night?” Noah asked.

“No. I think I’ll stay here and light the last of our candles. I can’t promise to sing that, though. I’ll leave you guys to your family time.”

“Babe, you are family.”

Kurt kissed him, but pulled back looking sheepish, “That means the world to me, but it’s just- the last run-in I had with your mother wasn’t so pleasant. I hope she’s better now, but I’d rather stay home.”

Bubbe was having their mother over the next night. She had supposedly cleaned up, but Bubbe wouldn’t let Sarah move back until she had been clean, sober, and functioning for longer than a few weeks. She knew better.

“When did you see my mother?” Noah asked.

“Oh my god,” Kurt gasped, realizing he had never told Noah about his mother’s visit to the shop. “Things were just so crazy with us then that I completely- I can’t believe I forgot about it. I’m sorry, Noah.”

“Just tell me,” Noah rubber his thumb over the smaller boy’s hand. Kurt launched into the story of how she had come storming into the shop, overly intoxicated, demanding that she see her son.

“It was the day after you were in the hospital.”

Noah sighed, “She’d probably forgotten about me till I called.”

“Baby, no. She couldn’t forget about you. She’s just- she’s been messed up. Maybe she really is getting better. Getting help. She’s getting together with your family tomorrow, that’s something, right?”

Noah nodded and soon after, they went to bed, both quiet.

For the final night of Hanukkah, Noah kissed Kurt goodbye and went to his Grandmother’s. While he was eating lots of home-cooked food and having a good time with his grandmother and sister- and even his mother who seemed to be doing well- Kurt was busy at the house.

By the time Noah got home, Kurt was bouncing. “How was it?” he asked excitedly.

“It was awesome. I brought you some leftovers. And I got an iTunes gift card too, so you can help me decide what to download.”

“Yeah, let’s do that,” Kurt agreed, all but dragging the football player down the stairs into the basement.

“What are you so- oh my God!” He stopped dead at the bottom of the stairs when he saw an upright piano in the corner of his room. “What-?”

“It’s nothing fancy. It’s used… someone Dad knew was getting rid of it. I know it’s no baby grand or anything, but I thought you could use it to practice or whatever. And maybe you can play for me while I work on my audition pieces. I mean, I play a bit too, but not like you can, I guess but if you don’t like it-”

“Kurt, shut up,” Noah rolled his eyes, “It’s amazing. Thank you.”

He pulled Kurt into his arms and when Kurt said, “Happy Hanukkah Noah,” he kissed him
