you're the magic

He doesn't nurse anymore. It's no longer his favorite thing in the world. It's probably not even in the top ten. And when he does deign to nurse, he finds that there's not the milk there once was. I pump when I can but I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle. He screamed his head off for 30 minutes today and would take neither boob nor bottle ( Read more... )

If it makes you feel better, Finn went through a phase like that around 6 mos., but he got over it. I think it was a combination of being more aware of and interested in his surroundings, not wanting to miss a. single. thing., starting solids, and gaining more control over his own body. All those things going on at once meant that nursing was suddenly no longer such a big deal. It's still not as high on the list of things he likes to do as it once was (unless it's time to go to sleep), but at least he doesn't do his acrobat impression every time anymore. Now...Miss Thing? Nursing was the Best Thing Evah. If I hadn't encouraged weaning, she'd probably still be nursing today.

This makes me feel much better! What you say makes sense, the new awareness and abilities and desire to take this world in. But still, sad for us mamas. Is Finn still nursing? I need an update!

Tonight in the car K did his thing where he grabs my shirt and opens his mouth and yanks me toward him and I melted and of course contorted my body so he could nurse in his carseat and that made me feel MUCH better that he was still kinda interested. (Speaking of which, someone needs to invent a carseat that has padded sides so when we lean over to nurse our crazy screamin' babies it doesn't leave a bruise on our ribs..)

Lina went through a low nursing period too, and then picked it back up like it was once again the best thing ever.

I used to be able to nurse Mae in her carseat, but I haven't ever had any luck when I've tried with Lina. I think it has to do with the higher weight limits.

alix, AWESOME, I hope K does, too. Today was a pretty good nursing day. I'm hopeful the trend continues!

Higher weight limits on the carseats? I am so grateful for the ability to nurse him while in the car. I also secretly hope he starts to associate the carseat with happiness and then stops cryin' so much in there...

When Nic was a baby I remember some of the infant seats stopped at 18lbs, most at 20, now they go up to 22-30 lbs.

Lina is back to screaming int he car about 1/2 the time after a few months of nice trips. UGH.

Oh interesting! i've been thinkin' about swappin' Keaton's carseat out for the bigger one.. but if that's gonna make nursing more difficult than nevermind!

OOoh noo. I'm so sorry about the unhappy carseat baby. :( That SO sucks. Keaton still still still does that screaming and it's very difficult. I've started leaving the house as rarely as possible with him, unless I can sit in the back with him (and nurse him/entertain him). Does Lina relax when you're back there with her?

Keaton's also established that he's a natural early-riser, which means early going to bed, which means early getting VERY fussy from tiredness. So by about 7 he's fussy and by about 8 if we're not in bed starting to nurse he's a terror. But by 8:30 he's usually OUT which is nice....

Doesn't seem to matter who is back there with her.

I think if K is still within weight and height restrictions for hi infant seat, he should stay in it. The recline is better than on the convertible carseats.

Lina is starting to become an early bird too, so sad for us here.

Finn is still nursing, and we're both pretty happy with that. I'm not sure when we'll think about weaning, but it'll be a while longer. Maybe we'll reevaluate at 18 mos. Probably closer to 2 y.o., though. And I couldn't tell you how many times I've injured myself on the stupid carseat. I'm right there with ya on that one.

Melanie, that is wonderful. I'm aiming for 2 years, too. We have lucky babies! :)
