today is not the day

I didn't go into labor today. The cramps I've had all week became worrisome so MM insisted I come in to make sure all was fine. I did and it was, though I learned that I am already barely dilating and softening in preparation for labor. This is exciting. "In two months you'll be absolutely ready to go," MM said ( Read more... )

Glad to hear that it *wasn't* labor, but just as an fyi, Sean came at 33 weeks and was perfectly healthy, lovely and fine. I'd never wish for that early of a delivery for anyone, but I wanted to reassure you that you are in some very comfortable territory now where preemies are concerned.
When do we get to see more belly pics?
And has the kicking and movement reached the "Oh my gosh, that's just like the Alien movie!" point yet? You know, where your belly is writhing around so noticeably that the people near you are startled?

I was wondering how early a baby could come and still be not scarily premature. Was it a vaginal birth even though he was so early? I am oddly comforted that the baby is totally viable at this point. Just in case worse came to worse, I like knowing he'd make it!

More belly pix soon! I am absurdly large. I alternately: love it, hate it, forget about it. It's funny how sometimes I forget I'm preggers now, I've grown so accustomed to this body!

And YES, we're definitely in It's-An-Alien-in-My-Belly land. Just today I sat on the couch by Ez's GF Sara and we watched my belly contort oddly and she said "ooooh alien!" I love it! It's one of my favorite things to just sit and stare at the movement. I can totally understand the post-partum missing that.

I had to give birth in an OR, complete with extra Neonatal ICU staff on hand just as a precautionary measure in order to be prepared for all possibilities. But it was a vaginal birth. He came out screaming. And Tim was able to cut the cord, although they'd warned us that he might not be able to if the baby needed to be rushed off for any reason.
I didn't get to hold him right after he was born, which made me sad, because he did have to go to the ICU, but he was really ok. Because of his gestational age, and a few problems getting his breathing and eating going really well, he had to stay at the hospital for a week. And it was sad leaving the hospital without a baby to take home with me. But the overall message that I like to convey to people in their early 30-weeks, is that he was ok. Like really, perfectly, ok. No feeding tubes. No breathing tubes. No big scary apnea alarms to come home with us to monitor him. You really have moved into the "It'll be ok" range.

heeh, that is quite awesome. I mean, I bet it was scary at the time but I'm SO glad to hear you were able to do a normal birth and all was well. Somehow that IS good to know, like a little bit of a relief, that at this point the baby will be okay pretty much no matter what. I like that. Thank you!

margaret was a whole month early. she didn't fit into any of her clothes and we could hold her in one hand, but she was incredibly healthy!

to make up for it, maddie came 4 weeks late and was more than twice as big. :)

I would LOVE that! Ali's bday is on the 25th and I was thinin' it'd be so nice to have a nice belly shot to give him, but I hadn't thought on it beyond that. I'm awfully unloving of pictures of me right now.. but maybe making the belly the center would be ok!

Mobile making = fun. I still wanna do that crafts night soon, maybe we can work on a mobile or two then!

4 weeks late? Holy LORDY, I want my baby out already, I can't imagine having to wait 4 weeks past the expected time. Zoiks! I didn't know M1 was a month early... wow. I guess the EDD is really just a funny random date thrown out there to give you SOME sort of aiming device, but little more!
