“Rose.”

“Mmmph…”

“Rose.”

“Wha’?” He smiled down at her, finding her ridiculously attractive despite being rather sleepy. He watched her attempt to sink back into the realm of sleep.  Determined to prevent this, he pressed a kiss to her shoulder.

“Rose… come on… wake up…”

The sleeping woman’s eyes remained resolutely shut. The Doctor sat down near her, and bent down to bury his nose in her hair, inhaling her scent. He kissed her head softly.

“Can’t stay in bed all day,” the Doctor murmured affectionately; he was tempted to join her, but her wanted to show her this world more.

“Who says?” She groaned, and lifted her head to look him in the eye. He smiled down on her.

“You’ll like this,” he said, thinking of the world he had to show her. The apples there were silver, and the leaves gold. At least, they were the color of silver and gold. The color was actually a result of a complex chemical reaction that he couldn’t wait to try and explain to Rose.

If she would get out of bed.

She put her arms around his waist and hugged him close,.

“I bet I will,” she said suggestively, and he rolled his eyes.

“That’s not what I meant, and you know it,” the Doctor said, and Rose smiled.

“I’d still like it,” she replied, and not for the first time was he tempted to give in to her idea and forget about the planet outside. It was a time machine after all, and the planet would be there tomorrow. And if it weren’t- admittedly when he was around this tended to happen-he was in a time machine, why not just go back?

Overcoming the temptation, he said,

“So would I… but you’re going to have to get out of bed first.”

He watched her pout as she said, “That’s not fair and not exactly leading to that goal.”

Bemused, he protested , “Rose, you really will like this planet. Come on, time for that later!”

His eyes darkened as he watched her roll out of bed and stretch. He placed his hands on her torso, wondering if perhaps the planet could wait for another…

CLUNK. THUMP. THUNK.

The gentle hum of the TARDIS had changed, but it was the last part of the bumpy landing was enough to gently rouse the Doctor from his slumber. His hand quested over one side of his bed, thinking that perhaps… but no.

With no miracles having occurred during the night, the Doctor closed his eyes again.

Where ever you are

I'm thinking of you oceans apart
