Learned something interesting about Mary Winchester's death. :P
According to the tv series, Mary Winchester died pinned to the ceiling, and on fire, many thanks to Mr. Yellow-eyes-shining-demon Azazel, over there. And, yeah, okay, that's how she died.
Furthermore, all of her friends, her family, anyone that knew her in general with the exception (so far) of Sammy, Dean, John, and Missouri are dead.

Well, just read Origins. Mary Winchester died at exactly 11:27 PM. There was nothing left in the house, no sort of clues, EXCEPT the tooth of hellhound with the numbers "112 7"
Ironically, the time of Mary's death.
However, hellhounds can't kill a person until after the last strike of midnight.
Now - get this, 10 years prior, Mary and John were river rafting for their honey moon. They hit a rock, and were seaweed pretty much. Mary made it ashore, John did not.
The raft toppled ontop of John, and he couldn't get it off. He considered himself dead, gave up, and passed out. Next thing you know, Mary is out there with super human strength, pulling that raft off of John and saving his life. From then on out she treasures life to it's fullest, he says, and 5 years later out pops Dean.
Exactly ten years later, Mary dies in Sam's nursery. However, whether she had a contract or not, she did not go to Hell. Her spirit became a poltergeist that haunts the nursery.
John later finds out the numbers on the Hellhound tooth are coordinates. He and this man go on this crazy adventure to said coordinates. What lies there is the "Devil's Inferno," or a hell's gate. John finds out that the man he is with is a Demon, and the Hellhound belongs to him. The Demon confirms that he did not kill Mary.
The Demon tells John that it's with the upmost importance he must train his boys to be Hunters. Or, rather, he must train Sam to be a Hunter.
John "kills" the Demon (aka - pushes him off a cliff), and then returns to his kids and begins the training immediately.
..I smell conspiracy. ):
