I should go to bed but Homestuck has updated and I've already watched the vid several times and I'm going *squee* and *eeep* and *OMG* and *ooooh* and *waaaah*!!! Not necessarily in that order.
Cal is too small for the cape, though, but... Yes. It wouldn't exactly explain things, but it would fit. And it's not like this comic doesn't have precedent of dolls going through time shenanigans and becoming alive, either! (I wonder what happened to Liv Tyler the Bunny? Was it destroyed in the Green Sun explosion?)
And Cal was always one scary bastard. o_o
Yeah, you're right again - perhaps it was a bed in Aradia's case, too. I got the "coffin" thing because I think AH described it as "the crypt on Derse" in one of the recaps. And I got the impression that she was inside something. But perhaps it was just a stone slab like the quest beds.
I guess the stone slab thingies were on Derse's moon that Rose & Dave came on? That would make sense, unless they were always out there, or appeared out of a dream bubble...
What unites Aradia and Rose & Dave's ascension... It seems all of were their dream self, who at the time were their only self, and died on a quest bed thing from Derse (would it have to be from Prospit for Prospit dreamers?) out in the Furthest Ring. With Green Sun energy about, yes.
In Aradia's case, she couldn't ascend until she exploded the robot so that her unconscious dream self was her only self. And Rose & Dave's original selves had already been killed. So the second way of ascension involves dying twice!
You're probably right about the supernova, too. Supernovas burn brighter than usual for a while and then go out, so perhaps Scratch was telling the truth that the Green Sun's energy would disappear - eventually? (but what does time mean out in the Furthest Ring? Where normal rules of time doesn't apply?)
Oh, and I just realized! Rose once mentioned that the Green Sun was "about twice the mass of our universe". And... The bomb used to explode it contained the essence of two dying universes. O____O
...Wait...is it possible the explosion actually started the Green Sun? fueled it somehow? The twice-the-mass thing makes me wonder...(is the Green Sun going backwards in time or something? so this is its start?? AAAAAAAH WANNA KNOW!)
R&D's stone slab/bed/whatsits appear to be inside the Derse moon (as Aradia's was inside either Derse or Derse's moon) - we noticed that on the 4th watching or so, that the camera/pov zooms into the moon, and that's when you see the beds...
Cal's got the right proportions for the coat, though, very skinny? And yes, what did happen to Bunny Liv Tyler??? inquiring minds want to know! (back to checking daily for updates, whee~!)
...Wait...is it possible the explosion actually started the Green Sun?
Holy shit yes. That is totally possible. Now I'm going to marvel at this possibility. O_O
*checks what Scratch actually says*
"Refusing to venture out to destroy the sun in no way spares anyone from my master regardless. It is certainly true that destroying it will end my life. And it is certainly true that The Tumor you will deliver to its location has enough power to destroy it completely. But it is not the only way to kill me. It is simply a way I have suggested to you, which doubles as a way to disarm Jack, should you choose to go through with it."
He really does seem to be saying that The Tumor would destroy the Green Sun, and that that would kill him and destroy Jack's power. Except that apparently didn't happen. So was he lying? (He made a great deal in this very same conversation - pages 5527-5531 - about telling the truth!)
Perhaps the fact that the Tumor has enough power to destroy the Green Sun does not mean that the Tumor will destroy the Green Sun? Especially not if the explosion was what started it in the first place!
R&D's stone slab/bed/whatsits appear to be inside the Derse moon
Ohhhh. I thought they were flying out into space with the Tumor, but that actually makes more sense. *iz stupid* Since it's dark in there, and the Green Sun would be visible outside. So yes, definitely the same situation as Aradia!
(just so you know, it doesn't really spoil anything. I mean, it tells you what's going on. But the story's no less awesome for understanding it better ^_^)
...still don't want to read that. (And yes, I do think it's less awesome for having it explained off-story by the creator. Speculation is so much more fun!)
In other words, I'm very happy we figured it out before you told me that. :D
Heh, the funny thing is, the way he talks about it, I think he expected the Green Sun creation thing to be an obvious part of the animation: "I believe some people thought they were witnessing the destruction of the sun when the bomb went off. Though if you examine the scene objectively, there’s no reason to think this, other than that it was the stated mission for so long. There was no sun in sight. They were drifting through empty space. Then, boom. The sun was growing from ground zero. The fact that this misapprehension was somewhat common probably speaks to how cemented the mission to destroy the sun had become as a critical plot point. And maybe also, to how well Scratch deceived everyone on the subject."
Of course it was obvious to him! Things like that are always obvious in your own head, aren't they? XD
To us, it was more like ~something is off with that so-called explosion~ but it wasn't exactly clear how until we bounced it between us for a bit. Hee.
So basically, destroying the sun would kill Scratch. And the bomb did have enough power to do it. Except that could never happen at all, because the bomb creating the sun was something that had already happened (since the sun existed and all) and Scratch played everyone for suckers. Yup.
XDDDD
Thinking about it, Rose & Dave starting the sun also makes the whole of this mess their fault. No Green Sun = No First Guardians = No Doc Scratch... (I love how everything keeps turning out to be each and every character's fault in paradoxal ways!)
And none of that had anything to do with Scratch's death at all...
And Cal was always one scary bastard. o_o
