My other project this month has been my sister's wedding dress. I keep telling her that if she doesn't like it, she still has time to buy or rent one that she really likes. But... she likes it. She does. Or at least, she keeps telling me that - maybe to spare my feelings? As for me... I'm not really satisfied with my work. I know where every little uneven stitch is located. I can see all my mistakes. My sisters say that I'm overly critical of my own work. *shrugs* I can't help it.
We had the hardest time deciding on the bodice design. Once you have a bodice design, the rest of the dress is easy. It's just one big poofy skirt! But my sister vacillated between a classic V-neck or a more daring strapless design for WEEKS. It drove me nuts! We finally went with the V-neck because - let's face it - my sisters and I are not well endowed *cough, cough* up top. We just don't have the bustiness to pull of a strapless gown. It makes us look as flat as an airport runway. *sooo sad* T_T
But we make do with what we've got.
The pattern I used for her is a slightly modified Vogue pattern. The base dress is complete. I just need to embelish the darn thing. I still need to add lace/applique and buttons. My sister and I picked those up from Joann yesterday. I'm 85% finished! My favorite part of this dress is the lovely train. It's looong. My sister will have trouble walking in it, I think. But that's not my problem, is it? ^_~
Here are a few progress pics:
The base dress - w/out lace/beads/buttons. Please ignore the wrinkles. It needs a bit more ironing.
The train on the dress...
It fits! Thank goodness. Here's a picture of my sister modeling the dress. This was taken right after her bridal shower. Again, please ignore the wrinkles. The dress had been stored in a suitcase for transportation. Isn't she pretty?
My baby sister helps my sister with a borrowed veil.
The base dress, my sister, and the veil. We just put her hair up in a simple bun. She'll get her hair styled professionally on her actual wedding day.
