So apparently Harper is giving himself to Bush?  Oh, and they're going to have a one on one... with sexy results!  Could this writing have been worse?  Amuses me that's for sure.

Oh, I also wanted to add my 2 cents to the ( Read more... )

I think the status of respect among Canadians for the military is exceedingly high-take a look at media coverage/polls-just look at the reaction concerning flying the flag at half-maste for soldier and the banning of the media when the remains are returned.

What's sadly lacking is history-even when we were in high school the curriculum was moribund, bordering on pathetic...

I vote we convert HALF of the time currently dedicated to studying Dinausaurs and Volcanoes (and in my case, the country of Australia) in school into studying something worthwile - like history (or electromagnetic wave propagation).

I agree with Dan that these guys did this intentionally. They knew they were pissing on a public statue, even if they didn't notice the giant soldier figures on it. They could have pissed somewhere else, even five feet away, no matter how desperate they were, but they chose this specific spot. That indicates intent.

They were up to no good, knowingly pissing in a public place, on a public building no less. They could have gone in a bush or somewhere else, sure.

Though, while drunk and at night, 'choosing that specific spot' indicates poor judgement and the intent to pee. I doubt these guys ever "exactly what they were doing".

I'm not saying they meant to, or didn't mean to. (or put another way: that they were stupid and assholes, or just stupid) Just think their actions, in and of themselves, are not strong enough to say if they had intent to deface the National Monument or not.

To me again the issue isn't whether these 3 individuals intended to disrespect veterans or not. 1 may have, 2 may have, who knows? But there's an over-reaching theme about respect for veternas and it should be clear that this isn't typical amongst the youth.
