Shawn's Backlog continues.  Now I'm going to post my commentaries from 560 CFOS.  These are the text versions of the commentaries that air twice on the given day.  They are also archived on The News Centre at www.radioowensound.com.

January 30/06

It's been nearly two months since I first moved to Owen Sound - and I'm constantly impressed with how friendly people are in Grey, Bruce and Simcoe Counties.

Whether it's Georgian Bluffs council interrupting their meeting to introduce themselves to me - or the Jewish community welcoming my girlfriend and I during the holidays so she would have a chance to celebrate Hanukah.

Almost everyone I've met has been great.

That's why I'm so floored when I go to municipal council meetings and I see such hostel opposition to new housing developments.

Usually Town of the Blue Mountains councils are pretty quiet, with only a few residents in the gallery.

Yet just recently the meeting room was packed tighter than a sardine can, to oppose a development at the Georgian Sands.

Some argued the new housing could cause environmental problems near a designated wet land, but the developers had done a detailed environmental study.

I got the impression it was a big case of not in my backyard.

The town was going to get public access to the waterfront, and I bet some people didn't want anyone to get near their beach property.

This case is just one example of something I've seen a lot in my short time here, and I don't get it.

You have a beautiful region, but that doesn't mean you should be able to keep it to yourself.

No one expects Wasaga Beach to turn into downtown Toronto, but in Ottawa - where I come from - we've had a lot of development in the suburbs, but have still maintained the region's greenbelt and neighbourlee feel.

Don't make life too difficult for developers, or they're just going to stop coming.

That's from where I sit, I'm Shawn Mullin
