I took Tanis to the vet this morning for booster shots. He has decided he doesn't like the car and cried the whole way there. And since he is part siamese he is *loud*! But now we have his rabies collar bling (tag) and I ahve also been informed I should get his "cherries picked" (my phrase) before he is 6 months old if I don't want dominant male cat spraying the house. He is 4 months old yesterday. Lucy needs a teeth cleaning before we can start a new dental regimen with her because her back teeth are a mess. Somewhere I am going to need to come up with an extra $100 for Tanis and $250 for Lucy. Ouch. Not this month, I have quarterly taxes.
I went downtown after the vet appointment to finally get the Letters I need to take care of grama's estate. I admit, I have been stalling. I dislike having to drive downtown, park downtown, and walk around downtown. Yes, I could have taken the bus, but it would have cost me as much there and back in bus fare as I should have spent on parking, and I wouldn't have had the luxury of my own car. You notice I said "should" have spent on parking? Yeah, now I know exactly why I was stalling. I will not go into a play by play of the comedy of errors, I will just say that it took me all day to file a very simple and routine probate request, and the people at the courthouse are all very nice, and in the case of the lady assisting the judge and the judge herself very tolerant and with a great sense of humor, but I shouldn't have needed more than half an hour all told. Part of the problem was I had no idea everything shut down from noon til 1:30, so I had to leave and come back. And then I had a form I didn't need and was missing a form I did need, and back and forth from the 6th floor to the 3rd floor and... Well, I have my Letters now, and can proceeed to phase 2, which is getting in touch with everyone that needs to be gotten in touch with and getting the various balls rolling. But that will have to wait til tomorrow.
After I got home I decided, since it had been such a lovely warm day and it is supposed to rain (again) tomorrow and for the rest of the week, I ought to take Abby to the dog park and let her run and socialize. I also get in a good walk there. We were there for about an hour, then I came home, had a brief break, then mowed the lawn. The front yard mowed much better than the back because it was drier, but noone sees the back but us, so I don't care much. We are mowing every time it gets dry enough (so about every 2 weeks) because the grass is growing so fast that every time we do get a chance to mow it is at least 6" high, so it is a pain. But now it is short, and the front isn't quite so embarrassing. I trimmed the edges back along the sidewalkk with the weedwhacker too, so it isn't trying to grow over the cement so much. Much tidier.
So, yeah, nice relaxing day off. I did find a new couple of books at the Seattle Mystery Bookstore (I was parked across the street) and am pleased to discover than Barbara Hambly, who I had always known only for herr fantasy novels, also writes what I believe is historical mysteries from the back of the book. I am eager to find out if I like these as much as her faantasy. And Kat Richardson, who is from Seattle, had a new Greywalker book out I hadn't known about, so yay. I really enjoy Kat's books, they are pretty unique and I like reading about places I've actually been because I can see it in my head. Just today I walked past several places featured in her last book while getting lunch at Subway.
Work tomorrow, then to Northgate to pick up something I had shipped in. A couple people to touch base with about my business, too. The bbq on the 20th to get the house ready for (are you coming?) and the product demo and business plan showing on the 27th (coming to that too?). So it is a good thing I plowed thru all that paperwork and cleared off the kitchen table, that will go a long way toward helping me get the house ready on time.
