good day

John and I went over to Bellevue and wandered the Square today. I hadn't been in a while and really enjoyed wandering with no agenda or shopping list. We didn't actually go into most of the stores, not interested in looking thru clothes or toy stores or for shoes or cosmetics. But we had fun poking into some specialty shops, picked up some nice chocolates, and stopped in at one of our favorite shops Oil & Vinegar. What a neat shop! They have dozens of varieties of flavored oils and vinegars, and love to sample them for you. They have tools and pastas, mixes and gadgets. They are also having their Mystery Bag sale going on. They have made up several bags priced $20, $25, $30, and even $40, and put enough products in to equal double the price you are paying. The catch is the bags are sealed so you can't see what's in them, so it's a bit of a gamble to pick a bag and then find out what you got. Random bags had extras like a gift certificate or a special aged bottle of vinegar worth $80! Ours was one of the $20 bags and it had two very nice jars of pasta sauce, some salmon flavored penne, a mortar and pestle (which I don't already have and kinda have been wanting to buy) and a nice bottle of olive oil. We're pretty darn happy with our stuff. We also stopped at the Oh! Chocolate shop and picked out several yummy pieces. They have their "oops" bags of 4-5 pieces of chocolates 2-for-1, so we got a bargain on our chocolates.

We were going to have lunch at Cheesecake Factory, but the wait was too long so we walked over a couple blocks to Cafe Habits, it's over on 104th (I think) by the Red Rock brewery, and is absolutely wonderful for a nice sandwich and bowl of soup and a really good coffee. We discovered this little place a couple of years ago at the art festival, and have been going back ever since. The people are really nice, the food is good even if the selection is smaller than at other places, and when they have apple pie it is to die for. Basically, if you come out of BelSquare thru Macy's and cross the street there going east it is in the plaza past California Pizza Kitchen and up the steps.

Then we decided to stop on the way home at our local QFC for a baguette to go with our pasta tonight, and discovered the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile in the parking lot. What a blast from the past! I had never seen it in person before, so I was delighted. John and I got several pix on our phones, and the reps were taking pix for people too, downloadable tomorrow from their web site. Makes me glad I kinda did my hair today.

I have the holiday off, so at some point I am going to swing by the cemetary and drop flowers off to mom, grama, and grampa. I should get an early start because it gets very busy there on Memorial day.

God Bless our troops, past and present! Those who serve our country in the armed forces are the only reason we have our freedom today. God bless and keep my cousin Corrie (Air Force) who just headed off to Iraq for a tour of duty, and her brother Carl (Marines) who did his tour and came back in one piece, my boyfriend (Army), my dad (Army) and everyone who ever fought to secure our freedom with their lives. With all my heart I say Thank You!
