i get what you're saying, and i agree with it.
the problem is that i think making them "gay" or "LGBTI" rights throws us into an "us" v "them" scenario - which is the whole problem.

the way i see it, the reason gay (i include all the other varities under this umbrella for simplicity) folk are persecuted is because they are not seen as "us".

what i see this fight for "gay" rights getting us is a situation where people say to themselves of their close friends - "i hate those fucking queers but i can't say anything or i get thrown in jail"
that's tolerance, but thats an ugly form of tolerance. and if the laws change again "gay" people are stuffed because the suppressed intolerance comes out.

gay needs to stop being something that divides us. it needs to be recognised for what it is, a preference. an inbuilt preference - like most preferences in fact.

recognition is important. however the rights being fought for can't be seen as "special" rights. the argument must be prevented from turning to "why should gays get different rights to me?"
"gays" aren't getting different rights, their current rights are being violated.
