Dudes - I've finally been "accepted" at Bloomsburg Volunteer Ambulance. :)
Last night they gave me my own radio/pager - so now I'll hear all the calls coming in from wherever I'm at so that I can arrive at the scene and help! WooHoo! This is exciting! It picks up all the EMS frequencies for the county, so it'll just be plain fun to listen to.
Also, they've planted the idea in my head to sign up with Buckhorn Fire to be a QRS - quick response service - member. Basically, I'd be responsible to arrive on scene before other EMS with basics like oxygen in my own vehicle. Which ALSO means that I'd be able to get a spiffy blue light bar for the top of my car.
But I wouldn't do that until I get my Escape later this year. Blue light bar on a VW Golf? I don't think so.
But the COOLEST thing is when I was talking to Bonesy last night. He's one of the squad commanders for the rescue task force for the county. Like how last week in the news some chick went hiking in Rickett's Glen when it was icy wearing only sneakers? (UBER dumb move!!!!!) Bonesy was one of the rescuers who helped get her out - that's what the task force does. Well, apparently, all I need is to take one of several courses and I can help with that too. Later this summer I'm going to take a basic ropes and rigging course so I can do stuff like that. It's gonna be a HELL of a lot of fun. Sweet! After that, I want to take the repelling course and the confined spaces rescue course. I'm not exactly game for swift water rescue. haha.
Oh, and then they were all like, "You going to do the fundamental fire fighting course too?" Pbbbt. Trying to get me to be a fire fighter on top of it all! That's gonna take some thought, I dunno if I'm physically strong enough for THAT job. We'll see though.
I was talking to Matt about all this, and I said, "You know that are kids are going to be bragging how 'my mommy and daddy have cooler jobs than yours!' because I'm going to be flying on a helicopter saving lives and you'll be putting bad guys away." Oh yeah. Our kids will make the other kids jealous. Mr. and Mrs. Reilly will be the most AWESOME parents at school functions haha.
I'm so excited. Now all I need is to work my way into the ER, then into a flight nurse position down the line, and I'll be the friggin' happiest person EVER.
And this master's degree is what I REALLY want, and if I move to Hershey, I'll get to get it at only 25% the cost of everyone else!
