Harth has actually been in Rome for quite a while, quietly doing his thing. The same thing he had been intending to do back in his own world, with a few subtle differences. The main one being that this isn't his world, so he doesn't have the right memories to open a gate to hell and unleash unimaginable (unless you happen to be Harth, who doesn't have to imagine when he can remember) horrors upon the world. Besides, who needs gates to hell-dimensions when there are some quite handy portals to other worlds - plenty of which are hell-like enough for his purposes - opening all of their own accord. It's really all very convenient.

Back to Harth's thing, then. Harth is a methodical guy, so he had first gathered those of his followers who had been brought to this world. Then, he had gathered the other vampires from his world, those who were not necessarily from his time but still his sort, and. . . convinced them that they wanted to follow him. It had only taken the wholesale slaughter of some several hundred of them before the others had seen sense, which Harth had reasoned was an allowable sacrifice. It wasn't as if there was any real shortage of humans just begging to be made into something a little more fun. And useful.

Once his make-shift army was powerful enough for his plans, he had begun on the more interesting stage in his scheme; gathering up the more useful sort of creatures that appeared, dragged into this world by a force which, to his annoyance, Harth has not yet explained to his own satisfaction. He has his theories - but he's not entirely happy with any of them. Still, it's quite convenient, having something dropping all of these lovely biological weapons into to his metaphorical lap. All he had to do, was send out his foot-soldiers to gather them up. He had lost quite a few vampires in the process, but there were always more where those came from.

He's about ready now.

Rome is his - the few humans who are left are the pets of his army. His monsters are securely corralled in the few buildings left standing, and he's finding the catacombs under the city to be a most congenial lair.

He's starting to get twitchy. Everything is ready - there's just one thing left to do.

"I'm coming," he whispers into the night from his spot atop one of the few standing buildings. He doesn't have to see his sister to know exactly where she is, even half-way across this world. "I hope you're ready for me, sister - because I've missed you."

He grins.

"Have you missed me?"
