He was walking as quickly as he could away from Fleet Street without looking like he was hurrying through the cold but not yet drizzling September night in London

Venom had finally wandered away from the farm in a fit of boredom, deciding to see what he could find. It might take him away from the farm for awhile, but at least it would kill time. He'd been hoping to find something interesting-and indeed he had.
That interesting thing turned out to be a working car, and now that he disposed of his former occupant and was reasonably sure it wouldn't die mid-trip on him, had taken it out for an extended joyride.
Quite frankly, the sudden appearance of Venom-his head stuck out the window, tongue flapping in the wind, driving down the road-probably won't do much to convince Toby he's not in hell.
Venom, on the other hand, might be accustomed to the open-mouthed stares of school-aged children, if perhaps not usually standing frozen in the middle of the highway for a split second before running like buggery for the side of the road.
Toothsome demons in infernal carriages! All right, Hell has turned out to be a lot more terrifying than leaving him alone with his thoughts in cold, empty fields.
Fleeing kid! Venom hits the brakes as he sees Toby go running off, sticking his head further out of the window to peer more closely.
A kid, apparently on his own, out in the middle of nowhere? Surely he's an innocent, in need of protecting! (Perhaps lethal protecting, perhaps not. Venom hopes for the former. He hasn't gotten into nearly enough fights lately.)
He steps out of the car, calling cheerfully. "It's all right! We have no interest in harming you!"
Don't you want to believe the big, drooling monster, Toby?
Toby, having taken a flying leap away from the infernal carriage, is flat on his belly with the wind knocked out of him. "Spuh..." is about all he can manage, still terrified-- and after a moment, scrabbling to get his feet underneath him, even if it takes longer to manage to inhale than it does to stand up.
He doesn't run. Where would he run to? Infernal carriage.
Maybe the demon doesn't mean to hurt him. Probably just means to take him to whichever part of hell is reserved for children.
