There's a flapping of wings, and shortly thereafter Lucy arrives in the kitchen, bearing a large brown sack that's rather awkward for such a slight young woman to carry.

Today it's tea and pomegranates.

Mel and her snacks small children get a polite, slightly nervous smile and a wide berth until Lucy can put the sack down and get an apple out of a cupboard.

Cardinal rule: always be eating while talking to strangers.

Ooooh pomegranates!

Mel has one out almost immediately, only to have it snatched away by Loo. Hana has Dino on Mel's back, and it's Loo's turn to ride hip, so nearly everything gets snatched right now, but it's recovered.

"Hey," she says to the girl, breaking into the fruit using her fingernails. "Where'd these come from?"

"Greece."

Because all pomegranates come from Greece, Mel. Duh.

"Huh."

"Eeeeeeese," Hana repeats, and Loo hisses happily, trying to scatter seeds all over the floor.

"You teleport?"

It's really annoying when your kids attack you with pet dinosaurs.

What Mel really should get is another adult to help prevent the dinosaur attacks!

What Mel actually gets is another semi-adult ... who also throws Dino at her.

(Hana thinks that's hilarious.)

Mel doesn't even look around.

"One of these days they're going to need adult influence."

Barbara has somehow managed to get herself into the kitchen since her arrival. She is sitting there drinking a cup of coffee and wondering if it would make sense to relocate the team out to the farm. On the one hand, there are quite a few people here, but no one to really get into her business. On the other hand, there is an airport in Metropolis.

Decisions, decisions.

This coffee is good.

Mel is stamping into the kitchen at just this point, armed with two babies and covered in mud from surveying the fields.

Where 'surveying' means tramping about and admitting all plants look the same to her.

"Hey, Babs," she says, almost idly, on her way to the kitchen table.

- wait.

She turns around, and smiles sheepishly.

Barbara's eyes snap up, coffee momentarily forgotten. "Do I know you?"

"Uh... no?" Mel offers, turning her attention back to unburdening herself from fussy babies, head turned back slightly so she can talk in Babs' direction.

"I'm friends with Steph."

"Stuffed dinosaurs can be just as dangerous as real ones, you know," Monk says from the doorway to the kitchen, picking idly at the stem of an apple.

This is his way of saying OMG HI MEL!

"Specially when wielded by brats who can breathe fire," Mel remarks, and grins widely at Monk.

"Sokka said you were here."

"In the flesh," he says, glancing down at Hana and Loo. "Can't believe how big they got."

"S'been a while," Mel says easily. "Hey, girls..." and she hoists them both up together in one smooshy hug. "Say hi to Monk. Monk."

"Ung," Hana repeats. Loo stares at the man with big yellow eyes.
