So Mel, babies, and older sister came home last night. Sokka was alerted to this in the middle of the night when Hana woke up and wondered what would happen if she closed her hand around the big noise-maker in the middle of her uncle's face. Since the noise-maker happened to be Sokka's nose and she followed up her exploration by sticking another ( Read more... )

There are big, big, big floating eyes in the murky pond suddenly, and Spots beams. (It's not hard to tell, even though he doesn't actually have anything to beam with -- he just radiates happiness!)

A TINY HUMAN! JUST LIKE SPOTS IS TINY! EEE!

He waves three tentacles excitedly at Sokka and Loo.

Sokka blinks.

Loo waves excitedly back. "Hiiiiii!"

"Beeeeeeeeeeeahh!" Spots pronounces gleefully. It's like 'baby' but words are complicated when you're tiny. He makes little splashy patterns on the water with his tentacles for her, bubbling with excitement.

No, literally. Bubbling.

... don't ask.

Sokka stares.

Loo giggles and claps her hands happily. "Ahhh babababa fen!"

Spots doesn't like Sokka. He's MEAN.

He pokes a tentacle hopefully towards Loo's feet, bubbling even more energetically. "Mama bababo!"

"Mama!" Loo agrees in an excited squeal, looking up at Sokka with a huge grin. Her new friend knows words just like she does! She continues to tell Spot in great detail about where her mother is, and all about her new Aunt Erin, and the fun adventures they had with her twin sister!

Sokka doesn't understand any of it, of course, as he doesn't speak Baby, but after a while he is smiling a bit.

Spots clambers happily out of the pool to squelchily flobble about on the edge, babbling just as happily back at Loo. He'll even forgive Sokka enough to pat his leg wetly. After all, Spots has two daddies (who sometimes squish themselves up and make themselves look like one daddy!) and they're the same sort of shape as his new BFF's daddy, so Sokka must be okay.

"Baaaababa ba" bubble squelch "deeeeee!"

After a while, the commotion draws Gordon's attention, and he comes out of the house to blink at the two babies.

"You know, it hadn't actually occurred to me that it was a child," he remarks, a little bewildered, "but that explains a fair bit."

Sokka, who has wrapped both arms securely around his niece and is watching the baby kraken like a hawk, blinks when Gordon appears. He grins a little-- and it's a bit forced, at that, considering his niece is having a rapt conversation with a tiny monster who appears to be talking back.

"Yeah, it does, huh? I'm... kind of completely and totally weirded out by this."

"I think I've gone through my available stores of shocked disbelief and reached a pleasant island of zen," Gordon says meditatively. "There's only so much I can disbelieve in one month."

He scratches his temple.

"Although that thing is really pretty impressive."

(Spots would be offended, but he's having too much fun with his new best friend.)

(Loo would argue on behalf of her new best friend, but she's too busy explaining Eden and the adventures she and her sister had had there.)

Sokka nods and glances at Spots again. "Yeah... I thought I'd-- well, no, I have seen some really weird shit but... I mean, if it tries to eat her, Mel's going to kill me. And before she does, I'll be having squid-jerky for dinner."

"I did see it trying to eat a man yesterday," Gordon observes warily. "But he fed it something out of the fridge instead.

"...it looked kind of like raw meat."

Spots looks up at that word, attention suddenly caught. "Meeeeeee?" He doesn't appear to have any teeth.

Sokka has looked up at that word, too, brows lifted. "There's meat here?"

Loo decides to be helpful with a "ME!" shouted at all the boys in the vicinity.

"Oh yes," Gordon assures him. "There must be quite a bit of it -- I understand kraken eat human flesh, and I haven't seen anyone with bits missing, but it looks fairly healthy."

Where 'healthy' means 'green and slimy and giggling in a high-pitched voice', anyway.

That's okay - Loo is giggling in much the same way.

Sokka, however, looks interested in other things. Things like meat. He grins and gets to his feet with Loo settled on his hip. "Oh, awesome, I love it here!"

"NOOOOOOOOOOO!"

It's amazing how such a small creature can make that much noise.

"BAAAAAAEEE! NOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Or that many loud, heartbroken sobs. COME BACK, NEW FRIEND!

(Gordon just looks mildly startled.)
