He was in the middle of his speech, and Nathan started to say, "I'm here to announce that I have the ability..." BANG! And a flash of light. Sounded like gunshots, only it wasn't. And that last flash couldn't have been the flash of cameras.
He was now falling over a field, but his ability instinctively kicked in. Now flying. Looked like some kind of farm or homestead... where the hell was he? Still in Texas? He started to descend for a closer look.
