The roads in Kansas are, right now, the best kept roads in the world. The road approaching the Cooper Farm is no exception, and for a driver who's been struggling with a lot of snowed in roads before crossing Safe Zone borders, it's a welcome relief ( Read more... )

[Clearly either Babs or Uncle Iroh or both should show up sometime. BUT WHEN?]

A little after the girls have gone inside, Miki yawns, rolls over in the back seat, stretches, and blinks. They've stopped moving.

Good, then he won't get carsick if he looks out the windows. (It is hard when your first time in a car is on Shatterverse's roads and you're not used to going faster than you can run!)

Oh. They're here.

He unfolds himself from the car and wanders inside, a tall scruffy young man in Water Tribe blue with a wide smile and light brown hair, and nearly trips over a red-haired lady in a wheelchair.

"Oh! Oops. Sorry."

The red-haired lady in the wheelchair looks up at him with a quirked eyebrow. "Are you now?" she asks with a slight grin.

Miki grins back at her, wide and bright. "Yep." He considers this. "And kinda embarrassed. I probably should have been watching where I was going."

"Probably," she agrees with a smirk as she looks him up and down.

"You're new."

He's a little taller (older) than Sokka, lighter-skinned, lighter hair, but he carries a club and a bone knife and a sheath that hides something that might be a boomerang (a boomerang with curves, wings, hooked ends...) and even if not for the physical similarity that'd be enough to mark him as from the same world. There's something almost dancer-like about the way he moves - probably familiar to anyone who knows acrobats, or gymnasts.

"New-ish," he corrects, leaning back against the bench, scrubbing a hand through his hair and grinning at her. "We've been here before, but I didn't see you then. It was months ago."

Babs smiles just a bit. "Water Tribe." It's not a question.

"No secret," Miki agrees, grinning. "You know others from my world?"

"Nope," she lies. "Lucky guess, I suppose."

Miki raises one expressive eyebrow at her.

Babs returns the gesture. It's a remarkably good immitation of his own expression.

Miki grins, recognising it. "Okay, okay, so you've just been living on the same farm as - Sokka and just mysteriously didn't know he existed, all right."

"Who?" she repeats with absolute innocence.

"Steph's boyfriend," Miki says, grinning at her.

"... but you knew that ... Barbara?"

(his mother told him stories all the time.)

"Someone's been doing their homework." It's not clear if she approves of that or not.

"I always do." He's still grinning, happy. "Can I make you a cup of tea or anything? Is there tea in this kitchen?"
