Jo's out, disappeared somewhere. Dean's actually pretty OK with that, because seeing Jo want to do things, want to go places? More than just 'OK

Loo really is a speed bather, but she's also very dirty and Mel takes the time to clean up the mess she made in the kitchen, letting Hana have time with Dean, because Mel happens to think it's good for the girls to spend time with other people, and Hana's much less clingy than Loo.
Then the two of them stop outside the twins' room to listen to the story, and Mel waits until it's well and truly done before sneaking in with a sleeping little girl in her arms.
"All my tales are good," Dean says, somehow managing to make it sound innuendo-laden without too much stretching of the imagination. He rolls off Loo's spot and stands up gently, careful not to wake Hana after he just put that much effort into carefully tailing the story off to let her sleep.
Mel smirks back at him, taking his fingers gently before dropping them away from his hips. And if they brush something else before returning to her, then that's OK.
When he's gone, she really does race through the daily admin tasks, and is only mildly annoyed when Hana wakes up and comes wondering out of bed.
Or at least, she was mildly annoyed.
A radio call later, and still covered in mushed food, Mel is leaning against the outside of the bunker wall, a radio discarded at her feet and an absent look in her eyes.
There is only so long one can wait in the shower - and Dean isn't good at taking very long showers, especially not alone. So it isn't too long before he's coming back towards the bunkers from the bathrooms, all damp-haired and clean, t-shirt and jeans and barefoot.
When his eyes fall on Mel his expression turns from impatience to faint confusion. "Hey." It's kind of a question.
Mel's eyes are wet - and Mel's eyes are never wet - when she glances up at him. For a second as she starts a breath, it looks like she might burst into tears, but when she exhales, it breaks into a smile.
Shamefully, she'd forgotten all about Dean.
"Hey," she says. "Sorry. I, uh... something came up."
Then the two of them stop outside the twins' room to listen to the story, and Mel waits until it's well and truly done before sneaking in with a sleeping little girl in her arms.
"Good tale."

"All clean?"
Reply
Well, except for the mush still in Mel's hair, and that she picks out of Dean.
"They're clean, anyway. You need a shower."
Reply
Dean is intrigued by this, and standing far closer than is entirely necessary.
"I'm not the only one." He points out a small banana handprint on her collarbone, by means of tracing it lightly.
Mm. Bananas.

"Guess we both need one. You wanna go 'head and get the water running? I got some farm stuff needs doing."
Reply
"See you in the bathroom, then."
Yep. He really does like coming to the farm.

"Yeah, looks like," he agrees, lifting a hand to wipe her cheek for her. "No sweat. You, uh ..."
What would Sam do?
"You want to talk?"
Reply
Honestly? She's not 100% that she does want to talk. But she hears it does good.
"I dunno. It's just... Sokka called."
She shakes her head, pretending that crying after your brother calls you is normal.

"He OK?"
Hearing from your brother is good, isn't it?
Reply
"He just... it's...
"I'm losing him."

He considers patting her back, and decides against it for now, settling for leaving his hand there.
"Family's hard t'lose."
Reply
And a husband.
"I don't know if I can lose another."

Dean thinks about it, and nods, confirming his own diagnosis.
"Kid's had a rough time, right? He'll be back."
