Light Yagami has never liked being devoid of control.

It's this general displeasure that colors his disposition now, jaw set, expression grim-- it's almost to be expected.

His world is shaken up, and he Doesn't Like It, as much, perhaps, as he doesn't like criminals and the scum of the world.

But it's worse. He's found himself, here, Note-less ( Read more... )

Sander Cohen has also found himself a library. In fact, he flashbanged straight here; perhaps it's proof that the universe has a sense of what's dramatically appropriate.

In any case: bangs are boring. Flashes are pedestrian. Teleportation... usually doesn't happen quite like that, but he doesn't seem to have lost any EVE to it, so who is he to complain? On the other hand, to be suddenly surrounded by fine literature -- and literature that has not been ruined by the ocean, nor torn and defaced by scavenging splicers -- is definitely something remarkable.

So, Light. I propose a scenario: in your journey through the library, you discover a middle-aged man in a tuxedo and ornate rabbit mask. He is seated at a small table, apparently deeply engrossed in a leather-bound copy of the Iliad. What is your response?

(Please take note of the following facts: with the mask on, though his face is lowered to the book, you cannot see where he is actually looking. And he is not turning the pages.)

Remarkable, perhaps. Light considers it to have been just coincidence, in the very adjective way of things.

He hasn't found anything just yet. So far, it's simply contributed to a More Irritable mood-- really, he'd even prefer a police station over a library at this point, as he has no idea who the criminals are.

... like this one. Sketchy, sure, and oddball-- one would never find such eccentricity in Japan outside of the media-- but not necessarily a criminal.

He doesn't, after all, know enough about this... existence yet. Which is another rather irritating point, however moot.

So for now, he seats himself at a nearby table, book in hand-- not paying attention either, regardless-- to Watch.

Just in case.

bewaaaaaare! since I started I haven't been able to un-learn it xD presto_presto April 26 2009, 20:16:58 UTC
The boy must be a splicer: the only people alive these days are splicers, their tacked-on levels of evolution proving the enemy of their wit but the friend of their survival chances. But he isn't like any splicer Sander has seen for a long time. He isn't aggressive, but neither does he mimic Fitzpatrick's awed, resentful subserviance.

"You're cautious," he comments, his voice slow and melodic.

"Like a cat that comes across something new, and doesn't know what to make of it: prey... or predator?"

He closes the book, unhurried, the movement briefly drawing attention to the sores and scars of burns on his hands.

"I suppose," he says slowly, studying the stranger closely, watching from a distance, not substantial enough to truly be apart, but far enough away to promise that the assumed, conceivable madman-- criminal? perhaps-- never once erring from his calm demeanor.

He's made that mistake before.

Prey or predator, he repeats to himself in his head, before allowing the hint of a smile to cross his features.

He's no villain.

He's God.

Still, if this is his New World, there are certainly a lot of uncomfortably sketchy characters around, and he has his work cut out for him. It would help if Ryuk was here, if he had the death note in his hands, if he had Misa to tell him the name and remaining life-- it would help, yes, but they'd also hindered him, hadn't they? Getting in the way and being demanding when he just wanted to use them--

The hands are-- unsettling. To say the least.

"I don't see why anyone would react in any way different, if they are in good taste, that is."
