Things have spiralled wildly out of Katara's control. It seemed like such a good idea at the time - it really did.

But now?

It's all happened so fast and it's got so big. She doesn't know how to stop this. But people are getting hurtAs long as Sokka doesn't find out ... things might be okay

"Hey," says Sparrow, from the next tree over (She's sitting on a branch about ten feet up. It's a Sparrow thing.)

"You're that ghost from the farmhouse. You're fixed too, huh?"

"I don't think it worked as well as we thought it did," Katara says dismally, looking around for the source of the voice and eventually finding it up high. "Hi. You're - you're fixed!"

[gal_wonder]

"Yeah."

Sparrow leaps out of the tree, rolls when she hits the ground and lands next to Katara.

"Sam got the bad guy out of my body. What didn't work?"

Oh god she's been crying. Sparrow doesn't know how to handle that.

"I think it's going to be okay," Katara says distantly, crossing her legs and leaning back against the tree. "Eventually. Probably. Do you think it could ... no."

Katara makes sense.

Sparrow doesn't do subtlety.

"What are you talking about?"

[highrisktrader]

"Nothing," Katara says, shrugging.

She draws a line in the dirt with a finger, idle.

[gal_wonder]

OK.

"How'd you get fixed?"

[highrisktrader]

"Waterbending," Katara says, and there's a smidgen of pride coming through the blankness there. She smiles a very little. "I'm a Waterbender."

[gal_wonder]

"You're a what?"

That sounds dirty.

[highrisktrader]

"I'm a Waterbender," Katara repeats, in the voice of one talking to someone very dumb. "Silly."

[gal_wonder]

Jubes does not take well to being talked down to.

"That like a Metamutant?" she asks, sounding sulky now.

[highrisktrader]

"Nothing like," Katara says, poking at the grass irritably.

"...what's a metam-, metmutant?"

[gal_wonder]

Sparrow considers this.

And throws a few lights about a yard away from them.

"Like that."

[highrisktrader]

"... like an airbender with light? Wow!"

[gal_wonder]

"Uh, yeah, whatever," Jubes admits. "It's a power."

[highrisktrader]

"Huh." Katara eyes it thoughtfully.

She probably shouldn't use this girl then. Not if she's got powers that might be able to hurt.

Not that she was going to.

Or even thinking of it.

She wasn't! She doesn't need it that badly, not yet! She won't!

"Cool," the thing that somehow isn't quite Katara any more, not on the inside, says with a shrug.
