Rachel is actually inside the farmhouse for a prolonged period of time.

Iknorite?

Not in the kitchen, though, like most others stick to if they don't actually live at the farm. Rachel is going through the bathrooms, looking for medical supplies. Specifically, medical tape. A few fingers on her right hand look oddly misshapen at the moment.

A small face peeks around the doorframe to one of the bathrooms.

"Whatcha doing?" Bridgette asks, bringing a peanut-butter and jelly sandwich to her mouth after she asks the question. (Crumbs fall. Lots of crumbs.)

Glancing back from the cabinet she was digging around in, Rachel looks surprised to find a kid there. Not that she hasn't seen any in all her months in Shatter - just that they rarely ever talk to her.

Then again, they rarely sneak up on her either.

"Just looking for something," she replies, making a conscious effort to keep her voice soft. "Do you know where they'd keep a first aid kit?"

Bridgette can be very sneaky, when she needs to be. She's been stealing her sister's things and her dad's laptop since she was six!

"We got a few," she replies with her mouth full, looking Rachel up and down with interest. "One's..." a pause for thought, "under the kitchen sink."

Her gaze finally finds the fingers. "Are they broken?"

Standing up from her crouch, Rachel shakes her head and looks at her fingers again. "Just sprained, I think. I just need them taped."

Which is good, because she hates setting bones.

This is just the cue Bridgette needs to start up with a story that will, of course, completely interest and enthrall Rachel. "My sister broke her arm once, 'cuz she fell off her bike 'cuz she was going too fast. I wasn't there, but I heard about it. We all signed her cast, and so did all the kids in her class."

As Bridgette talks, she begins to head toward the kitchen, trailing crumbs, and once in a while a drip of jelly. It's a very jelly-heavy sandwich.

That's... nice. And normally not the sort of thing that Rachel would bother paying attention to.

Except that Bridgette is small and kind of reminding her of her youngest sister right now. "I don't think I'll need a cast," she points out, almost like she's apologizing.

Hesitating, she offers, "I sprained my ankle once and my little sister was disappointed I didn't have a cast. She wrote on my tape instead."

Bridgette considers. "That's a good idea," she remarks. "Bet she had to write small. What's your name? I'm," sandwich in mouth, "Briggid Dubbah."

Though they've entered the kitchen, Bridgette doesn't help Rachel get the first aid kit. Grownups can do that sort of stuff for themselves.

Rachel has already moved toward the mentioned area, digging through cupboards to find it.

Rachel stifles a smirk and a roll of her eyes for the muffled introduction, speaking without lifting her head. "I'm Rachel."

"'oo gunna," swallow, "live here? Or just stay for a bit?"

"Just visiting."

Waiting. Again. Kind of.

Stupid Dean.

"Do you live here?" Rachel kind of hopes she does. The kids should really be staying in a community like this, where all the happy family fighters can take care of them.

"Yeah, for a while now, me and Marie. We ran away from pterodactyls with tentacles on my way here," she boasts.

Rachel smirks a little, looking honestly impressed. "Yeah? Good for you."

And it is. Bridget hasn't bragged about any special abilities yet. Standing up to something creepy and weird takes guts, and Rachel can definitely respect that.

Bridgette visibly glows at the praise. People so often fail to acknowledge her awesomeness.

She deflates a little when honesty forces her to add, "Not like we killed 'em or anything. But we ran away from 'em real fast and hid in a car where they couldn't get us. And I kept Marie with me, the whole time." This last sentence is said with great emphasis, as if it's a Very Important Thing.

Technically, the car was driven by a woman with a shotgun, who did most of the real work. But, shhh, that doesn't help Bridge brag.

"Sometimes it's hard to run, too," Rachel points out very seriously, giving the girl a look for her addendum. There were plenty of times where it would have been easier to stand there and let death come than to run away, or stand and fight.

Granted, she doesn't have that problem now but she's also got a little bit more than Bridget to be confident about.

"You're still alive, you kept your friend safe. That's plenty to be proud of."

"It was pretty easy to run from giant freaky pterodactyls," Bridge points out, but doesn't argue strenuously with the rest of Rachel's assessment.

"Did you hurt your fingers fighting monsters?"

Fighting monsters? Rachel hesitates.

"...a little, really annoying monster," she decides after a moment, eyeing her fingers.
