Jo can not be found in that many places.

She's just finished beating the crap out a stupid head.

More than necessary too because her hunt this morning was canceled.

She'll be over there, wiping her hands on her jeans, emerging from said alley.

Sam is waiting outside some building or another while Dean checks inside because 'I know this city better than you do, Sammy, don't argue and don't start up with the face either.'

He'd been too busy grinning to make whatever face Dean was talking about anyway. And now Sam leans against the wall outside the door, waiting.

Jo emerging from the alley while he's alone, now that makes him make a face.

"Jo."

Her shoulders tensed and her gaze narrowed when she spotted him.

Why the hell was he here instead of his little Mecca of Winchester women?

"Yeah?"

She's scowling.

And maybe the fact she didn't say fucktard at the end doesn't matter with the tone she's got already.

See, this just proves that Dean was wrong and Jo hates him and rightly so. And this is why he never called - how do you answer to an angry hunter's yeah? with a glare that says she'd rather see you impaled if she ever saw you again?

"Um... hi. Dean's just..." he gestures vaguely at the building behind him. "We were looking for you."

Jo is going to add disgusted to that scowl.

"For?"

And where the fuck was Dean if he was here with him?

Why would he leave his crazy brother out here alone where he could wreak havoc?

"Uh, some job at the farm? He had something to tell you."

He fidgets for a moment. All they've faced down, all they've done, and he can't look a short blonde woman in the eye.

...of course, she's the only woman he's ever-- yeah.

"Jo?" His voice is quiet, smaller than he meant it to be. "I'm two years too late and a sorry sack of shit for doing it now but... I'm sorry."

He doesn't think he'll need to clarify what for.

Right. Cause that's only.....nearly insulting.

Jo's lips pressed firm. Hadn't already covered this?

As the only really positive interaction before the insanity won out?

She crossed her arms not even being polite enough to step closer.

"How's your miracle wife?"

(She actually does feel a wave of regret for that one.

Jess had been cool at last check.

Sam really hadn't.)

He doesn't flinch, he doesn't get angry or defensive, he doesn't smile brilliantly.

He makes another face - lip curling disgust.

"It was September, 2008 when I left my world. I showed up here in Austria a month ago. That-- thing you met before, that isn't me."

Well, that was....

Awkward.

If it was true.

Jo's giving him a not subtle, very wary, look over without moving closer.

Sam lifts his hands sharply, still scowling and angry. He doesn't like what he's heard about this double of his and to be confused for him - twice - isn't improving his mood. Even if, just seconds ago, he couldn't do much more than pout guiltily at Jo.

"I don't know how to prove it to you."

"Dean believes you?"

Not that the answer would solidify anything.

She actually needed to find Dean herself, now.

"Dean was easier to convince," Sam admits, hands shoved awkwardly into his pockets, "since I didn't think it was him either. He had to convince me as much as I convinced him."

Jo's not totally convinced but she has something on him at least.

"You thought he was supposed to be dead?"

"No."

He's sorry, truly sorry for what happened. But that doesn't make Jo any more trustworthy than a hunter he worked with only once.

"The other one did."

She's not liking this.

Not at all.

She digs in her back pocket.

Then she's holding out a flask.

Old habits die hard for good reason.

Sam smirks. Being asked to drink holy water is somehow comforting.

"From what I hear, not being like 'the other one' can only be an improvement," Sam replies, reaching for the flask. He twists off the cap and sniffs it before taking a swig.

Without choking horrendously, he hands it back to Jo.
