Mac's kept to himself for far too long. After Dinah dropped him off at the farm, he's barely left his room, only sneaking down for food when no one else was around. He can't really say why -- maybe it's just the presence of so many humans around him combined with the confusion of dealing with what's happened to him.
In any case, enough is finally enough, and he finally needs social interaction. So, that's why he's down here in what looks to be a sitting room of some kind. He's got a book, but he's only half-heartedly reading it.
