Being shoved unceremoniously out of your own home to make your way in the world, presumably slaying dragons and rescuing princesses and restoring kingdoms to their rightful rulers, sucks, to put it bluntly and in modern terms. It's even worse if you're handed a sword that had been picked for a boy practically twice your size and it's heavy and even with rationing, your food is only going to last about a week.
To add to the suckage, she's pretty certain that flash of light was magical in origin, and she doesn't want a first trial to test her strength etc. against foes, dammit, but she hefts the (heavy!) sword anyway just in case the next person she comes across is an evil wizard.
