She agreed to help Katara's spirit, so she was looking around the Cooper farm for her brother, and give him a message.

"Hey Sokka? You around here anywhere?"

Yes. Yes he is. Well -- not the one the Katara saw, but that's always a risk you run by shouting 'Sokka' without clarifying which.

"...whah?"

The boy who sticks his head out of the bunker looks a lot like Katara, except that he's dressed in red silks instead of blue leathers.

Also, Katara did not look like she'd just crawled out of bed.

Well, Maria was still learning who's who around, and so forgot to account for multiple Sokkas.

"Oh, are you Sokka? Katara's brother?"

"Ye--" Sokka starts to say, and then she says Katara's brother and he's wide awake and not smiling any more.

"... I'm Sokka."

WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT HIS SISTER. HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT NAME. WHO EVEN ARE YOU. Nope, definitely not smiling.

Maria's the daughter of a shrink so she's picked up some psychology knowledge herself. She took a step back, and held her hands up.

"Take it easy, I'm a friend. I'm just trying to help her out. People call me Maria."

Help her out? But she's dead! He buried her.

"I'm not going to hurt you," he says hurriedly, and tries to look less like someone who sleeps with a sword, club and boomerang at all times. "It's, uh, nice to meet you."

Even if it's really not because she's talking about Katara and this doesn't make any sense D: D: D:

She lowered her hands again, and then said, "Ok, I understand this might be kind of weird? But I can talk to ghosts. See them as plain as I see you. Always have."

"I spoke to her recently, and she wanted to say she was sorry for scaring you like that. She didn't mean it."

... there is absolutely no reaction from Katara's brother.

He may not even be breathing.

"............................what?"

She explained in a calm voice, "She startled you recently, and you ran away? She's very sorry, and didn't mean to scare you."

[lemur_sitter]

"...she's dead," Sokka says quietly, uncertainly. "I don't ... know what you mean."

"You didn't run into her ghost recently? Because she's here still. She's worried about you."

[lemur_sitter]

"... she's still here?"

The flail, it is small yet, but it is coming.

"... I don't understand."

[gbdaughter]

"...And guessing you didn't?"

Head tilt.

"She is. And I know dork that he is, my brother would want to know about me if I was looking for him. She wants to talk to you."

"I didn't ... run away? I didn't even know she was here! I ..."

Sokka is so lost.

"...she wants to talk to me? But I ..."

"I guess it was another? But she's still your sister right? I'm sure she wants to talk to her brother no matter what. She still wants to help save the world."

Sokka's lips tiwtch upwards, but it's not really a smile, it's something very sad.

"... yeah. I'll ... I'll ... where do I, how do I, I mean ... ?"

"Well I spoke to her in the kitchen, she might still be around there, or hanging around the house."
