Once Upon a Time, season 2 finale review. Now, with pictures! Ooooooooo....

Remarkably, the finale started to remind me of things that made me fall in love with this show in the first place. I've been positively giddy and it's a thrill! Yes, dammit, I did just watch it the day before this challenge was due! I just haven't been able to find any energy to get fired up to watch the Tivo and 'Second Star on the Right' didn't help. Not a bad episode, just kinda boring. But it set the finale up nicely, so that is a redeeming quality.

Regina at her complicated best, begging for the redemption the idiocy of the bulk of season 2 stole from her with little explanation.

Snow, at her smart, empathetic best, insisting on taking the hard way and at last making me believe the bizarre behavior after sacrificing Cora.

David, not being useless scenery and actually manning up without being a cornball.

Grumpy giving that cure to Rumps to save Belle? Awesome.

Hook actually growing a personality. Who knew? It was about damn time we learned enough about him to give a crap about him. And the bristly sexism has more than run its course. Seriously.

Young Bae! I've always liked him. And Neal's unselfish sacrifice, while a bit heavy-handed, did bring him up in my eyes. Still don't really care for him or his mediocre actor, but this was a vast improvement and I do feel bad that Tamara screwed him over. Particularly as we learn more and more about what he's been through.

Henry, at long last, stopping being such a selfish little prick and remembering that he really loves all these people. Even if he had to lose Neal to learn it.

There was no real standout scenes with Emma, just a lot of good, solid work from Morrison. It was nice to see her actually get a chance to act instead of stand around.

And I still don't give a flying frick about Rumpie and Belle. It still feels cheesy and contrived and frankly, I think DeRavin kinda sucks. Oh well...

Everyone was amazing in this ep and it's about damn time the actors have been allowed to utilize their craft instead of being marionettes to the egotistic assholery that was so prevalent so much of season 2. The Two Idiots (yes, I'm looking at you, Adam and Eddie) need to get over your 'artiste' phase and get this damn show back to its strengths. Characters we give a crap about and stories that are not lame. Buckets and buckets of talent has been wasted during much of season two and the finale was like a breath of good air after being underwater too damn long.

Postscript:

Oh, and the SwanQueen subtext? Be still my little fannish heart! And Badass Granny ™ with action crossbow accessory! Oh, and Ariestess and I have decided that Greg and Tamara (could they have created any cheesier characters or hired cheesier actors?) are the Team Rocket of OUaT. Mostly incompetent and completely corny.

I love how the stories of Regina and Snow are being blended again, exemplified by the mixed tears here. Getting back to their roots is such a necessity! And Henry's grownups racing off to the rescue! Yes, yes, you beautiful show, how I have missed you.
