Happy 17th Anniversary, Fujigaya Taisuke!!
(as well as Kame, Nakamaru, Tsuka, and Massu!)
It's really amazing to think how quickly time has passed...
I'm glad Taisuke's mother made him go to the audition even though they weren't really sure who sent his application to Johnny's. (Very early interview said an acquaintance of his mother I believe, but all articles after that was that he didn't know who sent it.) I'm so glad Taisuke had asked about his number plate at the end of his audition and managed to stay despite failing, because the old man he spoke to was Johnny-san. I'm glad Taisuke didn't quit despite how there was a long period of time where he was not called for any Junior work. I'm glad despite all the ups and downs, Taisuke had stayed and now KisuMai is working towards their 5th anniversary.
...how is that for a bit of cheesiness?
I've been very bad of keeping track of dates lately, so I didn't start working on this translation until this afternoon! The day is almost over, oops...
It's a duet article though! I've been doing so many TV magazine articles and fanclub booklet articles that it's been a long while since I've done a proper magazine article! ...it might have been exactly a year since I've translated one! Wow. Oops.
But hey, to make for it, this is the newest duet article that just got released yesterday! I considered doing Wink Up because they talked about Kitayama's birthday surprise for just a bit, but it felt long and it was a three/four group crosstalk, so I did duet instead since they looked back on old issues a bit as a group, which is more anniversary-related? Maybe? (That and I'm really behind with reading magazines, so I probably skipped some really good ones that I haven't gotten to yet.)
Translation. First, members talk about equations - (member) x (something) = smile, (member) x winter = (something), and (member) x (something) = ??? (unknown). Then, because duet is entering its 30th year since its first issue, KisuMai members look back on their history with duet through a crosstalk!
CHEMISTRY
~Cool x Cute = The secret to their various charms are…!?~
Kis-My-Ft2
From movies to dramas, to new songs to stage shows, to variety shows… The seven members who create wonderful chemistry on all sorts of stages and charm us. This month, we got them to tell us various “equations”. For the photoshoot, we experimented with “Kis-My-Ft2 x Water = Handsome Men!” ♪
Kitayama Hiromitsu
1. Kitayama Hiromitsu x Delicious Food = Smile
I’d smile when I have delicious food. If it’s something recent, then it’s the “kushiage” I had in Osaka. I was able to relish the experience of “I came to Osaka!” so that was great. [Note: Kushiage is vegetables and meat on a skewer, fried. Osaka is famous for kushiage where the meat and vegetables are cut smaller than usual and only have one type of meat or vegetable on the skewer.] By the way, right at this moment, I want to eat ramen. Since yesterday, I’ve been really wanting to eat that - pork bone broth, soy sauce broth...any type is fine! (laughs)
2. Kitayama Hiromitsu x Winter = Sports
For winter, what I think would be fun if I do it is winter sports. I’ve never really done any before. Couldn’t it be cool if I can ski really well and looking cool? (laughs) I’m really bad with the cold though, so that’s the main problem…
3. Kitayama Hiromitsu x Las Vegas = ???
I went there once when I was 20, and I had fun. That’s why I want to try and see how it would be like if I was to go now. My main purpose would be to go and watch shows, but I want to go in private and not for work. I haven’t really had a chance to go trips with friends either, so I want to see how I’d enjoy the trip!
Senga Kento
1. Senga Kento x Sleep = Smile
Even when I’m feeling down after messing up at something, once I sleep deeply, I can go back to smiling, for some strange reason. After sleeping for a night, my feelings get reset. Other than that, what makes me smile is concerts, as expected. During the tour in the summer, I laughed lots during the game corner. When Gaya-san did “Gets!” for his greeting when he appeared, I was so surprised by it, I cracked up! [Note: “Gets!” is a gag by the comedian Dandy Sakano.]
2. Senga Kento x Winter = Like!
You don’t sweat in winter and I also like sleeping in a really cold room while being wrapped up in a warm blanket. Snowy sceneries are also nice. It’s also nice to look out from a window at snow falling. Plus, isn’t it pretty when things get covered with snow? Since I haven’t done it in a while, it’d be nice if I can go snowboarding this year too.
3. Senga Kento x Producing Kouhais’ Concerts = ???
I want to try producing my kouhai Juniors’, concerts or choreographing for their dances. Since I like creating things, it’d be nice if I can help them in some way. If I’m given a chance to do that, I’d definitely make it good!
Yokoo Wataru
1. Yokoo Wataru x My Dogs = Smile
With them just being by my side, it can bring a smile to my face naturally. When I go open and open the door, they’d be waiting for me right there and they’re really cute. When I go to bed, I sleep together with them too. Except when I wake up in the morning, they’d wake up before me and would be gone from my side (laughs).
2. Yokoo Wataru x Winter = Snowboarding!
When speaking of winter, it’s got to be snowboarding. I haven’t done it for about three years though. I want to gather professional outfits and tools, so it’d be nice if I can go this year. Also, winter is the season when shirako (soft roe) is delicious. Every year, when winter comes, I”d go and eat shirako tempura.
3. Yokoo Wataru x Licence for Dog Trainer = ???
About four years ago, when I got the license for pet care, it was a real learning experience for me, so I want to try getting a licence to be a dog trainer next. I want to learn more about dogs, which I love. It’d be nice if I can gain proper knowledge and teach them manners while enjoying myself.
Nikaido Takashi
1. Nikaido Takashi x Nephew = Smile
My nephew who is one and a half years old is amazing! He’s really cute and I seriously feel healed and relaxed when I’m with him. He calls me “Niini” and he wanted to sit in my lap...ah, he kisses me too, he kisses me! (laughs) The other day, (Tatsumi) Yuudai bought a toy for my nephew, so I went to give it to him. He was happy and played with it. Aah~ I want to see him again! [Note: Niini is a cute form of oniisan (older brother, or someone who is like an older brother to you).]
2. Nikaido Takashi x Winter = Snowboarding
Winter definitely means snowboarding. Last season, I didn’t get to go, so I’ll go this winter! Both the clothes and board, I have the full set. I’m also good at falling too. There’s a trick to it. When you fall, you have to fall from your butt! (laughs). Of course, I’m good at actually snowboarding too♪
3. Nikaido Takashi x Trip to Overseas = ???
I’ve never gone in private, so I want to see how things will turn out when I go on a trip to overseas. Together with Yuudai would be nice (laughs). I want to try going to Las Vegas. I’d do sightseeing, but I also want to watch many shows. Things like lighting and music...I’m interested how things are directed in the home of shows!
Tamamori Yuuta
1. Tamamori Yuuta x Surfing = Smile
During the summer, I went about two times with my friends. I can get refreshed through surfing~ Of course it’s fun to ride the waves, but I also like the time where I’m just floating in the sea, lying on my board. I’d just spa~ce out. It’s also fun to take photos under the water!
2. Tamamori Yuuta x Winter = Fireworks
Actually, I play with fireworks every winter. I’d buy a fireworks set with friends and we’d have fun with them. Like sparklers or the type that spurts out fireworks, various types. I feel that fireworks in winter look prettier than in summer, so I like them better.
3. Tamamori Yuuta x “Pussuma” = ???
For “Pussuma”, Kusanagi (Tsuyoshi)-san, Yuusuke (Santa Maria)-san, and the show itself too, are all fun! I’ve been allowed to appear in the show a few times, but next time, I want to try the “King of Scaredy Cat” corner. I’ll withstand any “scares” with composure! I’ve never done it before, so I won’t know for sure, but I don’t want to be seen as a scaredy cat, so I’ll do my best! (laughs)
Fujigaya Taisuke
1. Fujigaya Taisuke x People = Smile
All the fans, the staff, people I co-star with, friends...all of the “people” that I’m connected to. I like talking about things with people, and I think it’s fun to create a piece of work together. The support from all the fans just make me happy. With friends, I smile a lot especially when I go out for food or surfing with them, I think.
2. Fujigaya Taisuke x Winter = Snowboarding
Every year, I’ve always wanted to go snowboarding, but I still haven’t done it even once. It’d be nice if I can finally go this year. I’ve done skiing before, but I wonder how long it’ll take me to be able to do snowboarding? I can’t imagine it myself either.
3. Fujigaya Taisuke x Karl Lagerfeld = ???
He’s a designer for a brand. He’s one of the people I’ve been wanting to meet for a long time. There are feelings of me just being a fan of course (laughs), but if I meet him, I feel like I’d get inspired by him and a change larger than I can imagine would happen to me. Things like manners and how I dress.
Miyata Toshiya
1. Miyata Toshiya x Anime = Smile
What makes me smile is anime. I make time in various ways to watch them (laughs). I’m addicted to the rebroadcast of an anime series that I was crazy about before. It’s called “STEINS;GATE” and it’s about making a time machine. Even if I know how the story turns out, it’s still so interesting it makes me excited♪ If it’s anime that will start soon (interview was done end of September), then it’s “Yuru Yuri”! It’s totally going to be a hit!!
2. Miyata Toshiya x Winter = Oden
What I look forward to in winter is “oden”! [Note: Oden is a Japanese winter dish consisting of several ingredients such as boiled eggs, daikon radish, and processed fish cakes stewed in a light, soy- flavoured dashi broth.] Last year, I found a delicious oden restaurant, so I got addicted to it. I thought, “I’m glad I was born in Japan~” (laughs). The oden at the convenience store is good too. The ingredient I like is “chikuwabu”. [Note: Chikuwabu is flour paste cake in the form of a tube.] Will I get addicted to oden this year as well, I wonder?
3. Miyata Toshiya x Hawaii = ???
I want to try going to Hawaii. If I can go, compared to the beach, I want to go to the supermarkets and restaurants! Both the size of the shops and products are amazing, right? (laughs) I want to experience that. I’d totally enjoy Hawaii. If I really get to go, I might turn completely dark from tanning!?
Kis-My-Ft2 x duet = …!?
duet has entered its 30th year since the first issue! With that said, we had a celebratory party with the seven members♪ Also, in order to have them to solve the mystery of “KisuMai x duet = …!?”, it’s an emergency group crosstalk!
Kitayama: Well, it seems like a joyful event for duet!
All: Congratulations! (applause)
Kitayama: Well then, what does “KisuMai x duet” equal to? (laughs)
Senga: First, we’ve worked with duet since when we were Juniors, so we’ve been acquainted for a long time.
Yokoo: That’s right. From before KisuMai was formed, each of us were interviewed every month!
Nikaido: For me, when speaking of duet, I have the image of having sushi!
All: Aah~ I know what you mean!
Fujigaya: For refreshments during interviews, they often get us sushi.
Nikaido: That’s why before coming to an interview for duet, my mouth is already prepared to have sushi (laughs).
All: Ahahahaha!
Tamamori: All members like sushi, so you can’t go wrong with that!
Miyata: When we come to work, we wouldn’t go, “Aah~ Sushi, I see…” with our tension going down.
Kitayama: When speaking of duet, I have the image of “radio”. That’s because every time, they come to the studio for “KisuMai Radio” to do coverage on it.
Yokoo: That’s right. Also, for duet, we went out to various places to do photoshoots, yea?
Nikaido: When we went to Hiroshima for our tour, they came to do coverage on it and we did a photoshoot too. I remember riding on the tram and doing on a photoshoot there for duet’s interview.
Fujigaya: We did! At the time, we looked at the scenery of Hiroshima from the tram and Nika totally read the English on a signboard incorrectly.
All: Gyahahaha!!
Nikaido: Right, right (laughs). Amazing that you remembered that!?
Tamamori: What I remember is the photoshoot where we went fishing~ That was really fun.
Nikaido: When we did that fishing outing, I was totally late… When we were Juniors, we didn’t have a manager that was with us on location, so I totally overslept.
Senga: Speaking of that, I’ve been late to a photoshoot before too.
Yokooo: Senga-san, you’d mess up every now and then (laughs).
Kitayama: On the set for duet, where everyone was waiting, he slid in and onto his knees, and went, “I’m very sorry!!”
Senga: Eh, is that so!? That wasn’t Mitsu’s dream?
Kitayama: It wasn’t a dream! (laughs)
Tamamori: For memories of being late, it’s just Nika and Senga?
Yokoo: No, Miyata too! It wasn’t for work for duet, but I was made to wait 30 minutes under the blazing sun in midsummer!
Fujigaya: Ahahaha, seriously?
Miyata: Well~... I’m really sorry about that time.
Yokoo: Miyata apologized with “I’m very sorry!!” the moment he came, so that’s enough (laughs).
Nikaido: Watta would never be late.
Fujigaya: That’s right. He’d always come before the meeting time.
Kitayama: Well, but as one would expect, these days, no one would be late anymore. We’ve become adults!
Senga: We have a lot of the past issues of duet here, so is there any spread that you think are embarrassing now?
Yokoo: Eeh, all past photos are embarrassing? (laughs)
Fujigaya: The one where Miyata’s butt was published in...was duet, right?
Kitayama: If I remember correctly, it was one that was small and published as part of the article about behind the scenes?
Miyata: Right, the one where I fooled around and pulled down my pants a bit. Tama helped me cover it, but you can totally see the top of my buttcrack (laughs).
All: Gyahahaha!!
Tamamori: Aah~ How nostalgic.
Miyata: duet is scary~ (laughs)
Nikaido: It wasn’t embarrassing, but as expected, I was really happy about our first cover. The first time we were on the cover was when we did the photoshoot together with A.B.C-Z.
Kitayama: 12 people on the cover is apparently the highest record for duet. Isn’t this cover terrible? (shows the cover for February 2010 issue)
Yokoo: My eyebrows were thin! More like, Nika has no eyebrows?
All: Hyahahaha!
Nikaido: No, they were just a bit light! (laughs)
Senga: Gaya-san’s hairstyle is totally different too. Everyone was quite amazing, but in the sense of being completely different compared to now, as expected, the one with the most impact is Nikaido.
Yokoo: Senga-san’s hairstyle is quite amazing too, with all the curls.
Kitayama: You’re right. Senga’s bangs, if you draw it in a picture, it’d be three lines!
Senga: It’s like a mountain range, how I bunch my bangs together and keep them down like that.
Nikaido: Uwa~h, isn’t this awful? This was a cover, yea?
Kitayama: It’s amazing this became the cover.
Tamamori: It’s our dark history! (laughs)
All: Ahahaha!
Kitayama: You know, was the times like that? Or were we the only ones like that back then?
Yokoo: The times were like that, right!? It was a period of time where brown hair and long hair were all good then.
Miyata: That’s right! At that time, there were a lot of people who were like that on the streets! And hey, A.B.C-Z were the same too (laughs).
Fujigaya: Maybe after several years, this period will come back (into fashion)?
Tamamori: I want to show this to Juniors of nowadays. But you know, everyone has changed, but Gocchi (Goseki) hasn’t changed at all!
All: You’re right! (laughs)
Miyata: Including this issue, I have all the issues of duet from when I started appearing it shelved at home. My mom buys it every month.
Tamamori: My mother did the same too, but one whole magazine got too much, so somewhere along the way, she started to do clippings and scrapbooked them.
Nikaido: Eh, is it the same for everyone? I wonder if my family does it too?
Fujigaya: Nika’s family is totally doing it too. That’s because your mother is such a kind person!
Nikaido: Is that so? (laughs)
Senga: Not just articles from the past, but I found embarrassing photos from a very recent issue too. For the September issue of duet this year, we were on the cover, but a different shot was use for the table of contents page. It’s one where we all wore sunglasses and looked serious.
Miyata: Ah, I had thought of the same thing! (checks it with everyone)
Nikaido: It’s surreal (laughs).
Tamamori: Ufufu...Miyata’s look with sunglasses is terrible.
Miyata: Right, my sunglasses were a bit sporty style.
Senga: But I quite like this kind of playful photos!
Kitayama: You don’t really see us like this a lot, so in a way, it’s valuable. Nh? They’re asking, “What is something you want to try and do in duet from hereon?”
Nikaido: I want to have photos taken when everyone is sleeping! All pages will be sleeping faces.
Fujigaya: Ahaha! We’d do our make-up and change and just keep sleeping?
Nikaido: Right, I want to try doing that!
Tamamori: I want to go out to a location shoot.
Yokoo: Yakushima would be good!
Nikaido: If it’s a location shoot, I’d like it to be a theme park.
Fujigaya: A theme park is nice. Also, a location shoot where people with the same hobby would gather. The other way, Wata, Miyata and I talked about how we “want to play with mini 4WD” on the radio. [Note: Mini 4WD (4 wheel drive) is a AA battery powered plastic model race car without remote control.]
Miyata: Yea, I want to try and play with them!
Tamamori: I guess it’s surfing for me.
Yokoo: That’s nice~ More like, can we not call duet when we’re hanging out with our friends?
All: Hyahahaha!
Kitayama: What do you mean? To have duet take photos and do coverage of when you’re having fun in private?
Yokoo: Right, that way, I’d be able to show my true self just like that, right?
Fujigaya: Well, that’s true.
Senga: But that’d probably be difficult to do in reality, so about doing photoshoots with themes decided by members?
Nikaido: Meaning we’d each come up with an idea we want to work with?
Senga: For me, it’s snowboarding!
Tamamori: Well, it’s surfing for me then.
Kitayama: For me, can you guys go along with my bonsai idea then?
Miyata: Ahahaha, bonsai is nice!
Kitayama: I’ve been interested in them for a long time, but I don’t know where to start. Also, pottery would be nice too.
Miyata: I’m interested in pottery too!
Tamamori: What’s your own idea, Miyata?
Senga: Anime is a no, okay?
Miyata: M~h. Well then, I’m interested in stage shows, so going to watch the Shiki Theatre Company together!
Senga: Eh, just go and watch?
Miyata: Yea.
All: What kind of interview would that make~! (laughs)
Yokoo: If just watching is fine, I want to watch baseball (game) at Koushien. [Note: Koushien is a baseball stadium in Nishinomiya, Hyougo, which is the venue of the annual high school baseball tournaments.]
Fujigaya: For me, going to buy jeans would be nice.
Senga: That’s interesting. Not just a shopping trip, but one with a more narrow goal to buy jeans (laughs).
Nikaido: What is it for me, I wonder.
Yokoo: How about Nika, you play the bass and we’ll listen to that?
Nikaido: I’ll keep on playing...and everyone would just keep on listening to it? (laughs)
All: Gyahahaha!
Kitayama: It seems like we can still do many photoshoots with various ideas. Well then, in the end, what did “duet x KisuMai” equal to?
Senga: Like how it was now, I guess it’s a friendly working environment where it’s always filled with smiles.
All: Yep! Please take care of us from hereon too~♪
Hope everyone enjoyed this~
