First day of Colt Governments in Kitakyuushuu! Only four more shows left.
Like before, I translated an article related to the play. This time, it's not from a TV magazine, so it's a bit longer and he talks about more things.
(Another book finished, but I won't finish all the ones I have on hand by tomorrow. I guess I'll just renew the last one and borrow more books. Translated some more today, but less than planned, because some work came up, but I guess that's a good thing.)
(Busaiku's second single announced/confirmed! I'm very worried about Wataru's ability to pronounce things in this song…)
Translation. Before rehearsals being for the play, Taisuke talks about what he thinks of the play, his own elementary school days, and his view of justice.
I want to act while being conscious of “the distance of the hearts”
Fujigaya Taisuke
Stage Play “Colt Governments”
Kis-My-Ft2’s Fujigaya Taisuke, whose activities as an actor is remarkable as well, is finally doing his first solo lead for a stage show. Tagging with Tamura Takahiro of “ONEOR8”, who writes about workings of people’s hearts in normal everyday life and the way people are, Fujigaya will play a young man who suffers a setback due to his strong sense of justice. We asked Fujigaya about how he feels before rehearsals start for him.
His elementary school days, where he was a problematic child, but also a popular child
“Please increase the number of chances I can meet Fujigaya-kun” - I often receive fan letters that say something like that, so to be able to do a stage play this time at this timing, all the fans, and myself too, must be all burning with anticipation. Well, I do want to tease the fans a little more though...just kidding (laughs).
Right now, I want to start rehearsals soon. I’m reading the script, but since it’s already interesting now, I’m wondering how much more interesting it’ll get once we actually play it out. Fujii, who I play, is a man who shut himself in his home after quitting his job, and three of his elementary school mates, who he used to play with, suddenly come to his house...that’s what the story is like, but the conversations are really interesting. The four of them each have their characters laid out clearly, and there’s already the feeling of reality where they’re really like elementary school age boys.
I personally was a problematic kid when I was in elementary school. I didn’t sit down properly during class, and only for questions I knew the answer too, I’d say the answer quickly without raising my hand (laughs). I often didn’t bring my textbook or pencil case either, so I’d always borrow from the girl who sat beside me. Then one day, that girl gave me a pencil case. When I asked her, “What is this?”, she said, “You don’t bring yours at all, so I bought a full set for Fujigaya-kun to use.” I thought, “Wow, she’s kind! She’s an older sister!” Thinking about it now, I wonder what was I thinking then? There are times where I really forgot, but there were times where I had brought them, but just didn’t take them out. I want to ask myself, “Why did you do that?” (laughs).
I was the type to be overly enthusiastic for events and achieve results properly, so I think people didn’t hate me then. For example, if I was a runner for relay for Sports Day, I’d outrun the person in front properly. I was someone like a mood-maker for the class.
I’d get invited by various friends, “Today, let’s go play after school,” and I’d say, “Okay,” to everyone, so I’d often be double booked (laughs). I thought, “Even if they’re friends who invited me separately, when they’re together, they might be find it to be fun surprisingly once they talk to each other,” but I got yelled at by my mother, “Keep your promises with people. Don’t make more than one plan at a time, if you can’t even do it” (wry smile).
While feeling stress, he’s practising a “mini shut-in life”
It seems like Fujii was a mood-maker when he was in elementary school as well. His personality changed completely though and now he is shutting in. As he talks with his three friends who came to his home after a class reunion, Fujii slowly changes back to how he talks and his aura back then. Probably, compared to switching (his personalities) himself, with a certain keyword or topic, he’d get closer to them at times and further other times, and without being conscious of it, he goes back to how it used to be with his school mates. I want to rehearse, while being conscious of that “feeling of distance”.
Actually, after I heard about this stage play, I’m practising a “mini shut-in life”. During the time I’d normally use to go shopping or eat out or meet with friends, I’d spend the time spacing out at home, playing with my cellphone the whole time, and playing games I don’t usually play. This builds up stress (laughs). Time is being wasted! Having spent my time like that though, when I go to work and just say one thing, I need a lot of energy, so I’ve come to understand that feeling. If someone keeps this lifestyle up for several months, every time they meet someone, just saying one thing must be troublesome, or should I say, scary.
Since I have work, I don’t shut in for a long time, but I’m thinking of expanding on this feeling. If I overdo it, I might feel like not going to work (laughs). Breaking through the wall and going outside after shutting oneself in one’s own world though - I think that can be applied to many things in life, so as Fujii, I want to try doing this.
Also, what I felt after reading the script is, “Everyone has their own definition of justice.” Fujii is a man with a strong sense of justice, but that justice is justice to Fujii, and it can be his own convenient impression of what justice is. But I guess that’s what justice actually is. Even a hero of justice who fights evil, from the eyes of the bad guys, the hero is their enemy and is targeting them. People each have their own way of thinking and stance, so even if it’s the same thing, depending on the angle and interpretation, you can have a completely different way of seeing it.
That’s why I think if I decide that, “This is justice,” and I can say it with confidence, then it’s fine to say that it’s justice. Even if I realize that it’s a mistake afterwards, as long as I’m convinced that, “It’s because I was thinking that way then,” then it’s fine. If I don’t do that, then I won’t be able to do anything. I really feel that way lately. If people who come to watch this stage play would think about various things like, “What is justice for me?” or “What is true justice?” after watching it, I’d be happy.
I met Tamura-san, the writer and producer, for the first time during the photoshoot for the poster. After greeting him, what I immediately asked him was about Tamura-san’s comment published in the newspapers - “Fujigaya-kun is in this extravagant world called the entertainment world, but I feel a strong sense of solitude from him.” I felt it myself too, but since I’ve never had someone say that to me, it was very refreshing.
A long time friend of mine read the article and called me. He said, “It’s true that there are times I feel solitude from you.” I don’t understand why, but I guess I suddenly just go to a different world...? When I’m surrounded by a lot of people and suddenly look around me, there are times I feel, “Maybe I’m feeling solitude.” It doesn’t mean I feel lonely though.
Tamura-san told me, “Watching Fujigaya-kun on TV, I felt that way,” and somehow, I felt happy. I love writers’ and producers’ slightly “different way of seeing things”. On drama sets too, when I listen to a surprising idea from the director, I really feel stimulated. Even though I’m reading the same words from the same script, I would never be able to think of that.
I think it’d definitely turn out that way this time too, so I’m really looking forward to it. The DVD of “Cardigan” which Tamura-san wrote and directed at Parco Theatre previously was very interesting too. The other actors, other than Masu (Takeshi)-kun who plays my superior, are people I’m working with for the first time, so while talking about various things, it’d be nice if we can take our time rehearsing. Well, I think it’d be difficult in reality, but it’d be nice if we can have good rehearsals where I can savour the limited time I have properly. Making the play together with people who come to watch, I’m looking forward to that live feeling only stage plays would have!
A reward to myself who worked hard
I’d buy myself rewards even if I didn’t work hard. I have limited time where I can go shopping, so I’d use the reason of there’s something I want and just buy it. I have the habit of convincing myself immediately (laughs). Also, putting on music and taking a bath leisurely too. For me now, “using time generously” is a luxurious thing in itself, so I think that’s the best reward.
Hope people enjoyed this~
