Johnny's Juniors - Potato February 2014

Happy Birthday, Yuugo!

And a belated one to Fuuma (I went to support his aikata by watching his movie...if it counts as anything lol), but...Yuugo! \o/ He's 20 now!

I couldn't make this post when the clock actually turned midnight because I was still in the middle of translating, but at least it's not super late or anything! If I had time, I'd flip through the April magazines and translate something totally fresh, but I didn't, so it's a little older, but not super old at least!

Translation. The six of them each talk about New Year's - whether it was how they spend it with family, things they do in preparation for it, or what they want to get for the new year. Depending on the member, there's a bit of recent news as well.

Brand New!!

The start of a new year...with that said, it’s a talk with the theme “brand new”! We asked them about things like rules for only New Year, things they want to start newly, and things they want to buy. (Interview was done mid-December)

Morimoto Shintarou

Lately, we ran out of light bulbs so I went to buy some at the home centre. There, I found a triangle-shaped desk (when you look at it from above) that would fit perfectly in the corner of a room and I bought it on an impulse. Up until now, my room only had a bed and a low table and I was thinking perhaps it was too simple~ When I placed that stylish desk in my room, it became really nice! I can also use space efficiently, so I think it was a good shopping choice. I still haven’t studied there yet, but I think I’d be able to concentrate for sure. I’ve refreshed my feelings and it’s like I’m totally ready for the new year! (laughs)

For my family’s New Year, we’ve been going to Korea every year these past few years. My grandfather and grandmother like Korea, so they go visit around once every two months normally. For New Year’s, it’s like we join in with that. During that time, there tends to be less Japanese tourists too, so the streets are rather spacious. We eat chige nabe, yakiniku, and such [Note: Chige nabe is a type of Korean stew and yakiniku is Korean barbeque] until everyone is full, so I think we’d be spending New Year in 2014 this way as well.

A while ago, even though it’s a bit early, I looked back on my first year of high school. I realized I’ve been pretty diligent (laughs). The tests I got back recently too - health and music were in the 90s while biology was 88 points. Amazing, right? I’ll do my best to keep it up in 2014!

Matsumura Hokuto

I’m the type of person who doesn’t really do major cleaning. Just because it’ll be a new year, I won’t get something brand new either. More like, I may not be the type that would get high in tension towards New Year. When I look around me, everyone says things like, “I’ll refresh my feelings and do my best,” but that’s not something limited to New Year, right? Rather, regardless it’s New Year or not, I think it’s important to refresh your feelings every day and live with all your might...ah, I said something cool just now (laughs). If it’s just that though, my talk this time will end, so can I say something really specific? I always want to make additional purchases of puddings and mille crepes (laughs). Both of them are my favourites. I frequently go to stores and check out new products as well. When I find a new product that I like, the joy I feel then is amazing. I hope this year I’ll be able to find many brand new products ♥ (laughs)

I haven’t been buying clothes at all. It’s not that I don’t want to go shopping, but I think I should focus on doing my best with the filming for the drama “SHARK” (starts January 11th, Nihon Terebi, every Saturday 24:50~) and the stage shows. Maybe I’ll explode with a bang once everything is over (laughs).

Kyoumoto Taiga

There’s nothing new I’d get because of New Year, but every year, just for eating osechi, I use a special set of splittable wood chopsticks. [Note: Osechi is food served during the New Year’s holidays and in Japan, there are usually set dishes which will bring people luck and such (based on traditions, wordplay, etc), but also depends on the family.] The osechi is homemade by my mom, so I’ve been told to eat all the dishes, even if it’s just a little. There is actually food I don’t like in it, but I eat them properly. Speaking of New Year, since I was in third year of middle school, I’ve had, “I'll learn how to converse in English this year for sure!” as my resolution, and it’s the same for 2014 (laughs). In just one year is difficult though...I will learn it by the time I’m 23 years old. I’m declaring it here! Lately, what I bought is a pair of (cartoon) character slippers! They were cute and I fell in love with them at first sight! It was embarrassing for people to see me take them and line up at the cashier though (laughs). Also, the shoes I’m wearing today were bought recently as well. They didn’t have the perfect size, so they’re 2cm too big, but I really like them so I tie the laces tightly to make up for it. It’s just that I can’t run full speed with these shoes (laughs).

Lately, I often watch movies. I like dramas and there are times I’d watch 10 series a week, so it’s not like I have time, but after reading about (Ikuta) Toma-kun’s acting and his feelings towards actings in an article, but I wanted to learn more about acting. I watch movies while paying attention to the actors’ acting and repeating the lines. My homework is to keep with the pace of watching five movies in two weeks!

Tanaka Juri

For New Year’s, all my relatives would always gather together. Both of my parents have many siblings, so just my cousins alone would easily go over 10 people. There, we’d talk, make a lot of noise and eat my grandmother’s homemade osechi. Osechi would normally go in tiered lacquer ware boxes, but for us, large amounts of the side dishes would go in separate plastic containers. From there, we take what we like to eat, so it’s like of like a buffet (laughs). It’s because we have a lot of people that it’d end up like that.

What I bought recently was clothes. As a reaction to not having bought anything in a while, I wasted a lot of money (laughs). In a month, I bought a hat, a necklace, three outer tops, two inner tops, pants, shoes, and a ball for basketball...that’s quite the number of thing, isn’t it? On a recent Sunday, I used those items and enjoyed playing basketball for about three hours. It was fun to be able to move around lots for the first time in a while. In 2014, I think my own time would increase after I graduate from high school, so I want to try combative sports. Any sport would be fine, but I thought, I’d like to gain muscles quickly~ (laughs)

I went to watch a horror movie called “You’re Next” in the theatre. I was able to watch it quite easily, and the development of it and the story was interesting too, so I was satisfied!

It just happens that for New Year of 2014, I plan to buy a new bed and exchange it (with my old one). The bed I’ve been using until now is one I’ve been using as a kid, so it’s getting small in size and since I’ve been jumping on the mattress and playing like that, the springs came flying out and stuff (laughs). As expected, it has probably reached its limit. The new bed will have a low rebound mattress so it should feel good to sleep in it! Also, just recently, I did a major clean-up of my room and threw away various things that I didn’t need. There’s nothing in my desk right now (laughs). It’s quite refreshing and I feel good about it too. As I thought, cleaning is important! What I bought recently is vegetable juice in a carton (laughs). Since I have stage shows continuing for two months, I thought, “I must take in vegetables properly” so I bought a lot and put them at home. When I drink, I somehow feel that I’ve become healthier. I don’t actually know how much of an effect it has, but well, the important thing is my feelings (laughs).

A New Year’s rule with my family? I guess it’s gathering with all the relatives every year and spending it noisily and merrily. I can really feel that, “It’s New Year’s,” and I feel my feelings get refreshed naturally, so it’s a period of time I really like.

Kouchi Yuugo

In January, I plan to attend the adult ceremony in my hometown, but there are many things I want new ones of as I turn 20. For example, clothes. Before, I’d wear clothes that fit loosely, but I want to become someone who would suit wearing a long coat, white shirt and such. I guess my goal is to be able to wear simple items easily and smoothly like a foreigner. Actually, around November, I splurged and got myself a nice watch. I planned to match it with the suit I was going to wear to the after party of the adult ceremony, but...when I went to a sports type recreational facility, it broke without me knowing. While playing billiards, I got ready to play and when I looked at my hand, the second hand had stopped! The reason is because the winding knob that winds the hand was damaged, so I took it back home carefully and have it displayed (wry smile). It was quite a shock~

Every New Year, it’s custom that together with my cousins, we stuff our mouths with the huge amount of crabs my grandfather buys at the market. Everyone holds a crab claw and eats merrily, and that’s what makes it delicious. We’d make things like hand-roll sushi too.

I went to watch the first day of “Johnnys’ 2020 World”. It’s like they took all the good things about last year’s show and if I compare it to music, it’s like a best of album! A.B.C-Z and Sexy Zone’s new songs were cool too.

Hope people enjoyed this~
