Some Help Please

Talked to the prof about my speech today and I have to rewrite parts of it to make the content even more compact, and he suggested that I add some sort of statistics into my speech to have another point of interest. It doesn't have to be like official research, just research on my own, so I'm posting a poll here! After all, it's about making ( Read more... )

To you, what is the best thing about meeting people online?Personally and looking at LJ; getting to know people from other countries and cultures. I wouldn't consider myself healthy at all if I only talked to fellow Swedes. Also, it's nice to have a life outside university/family/other RL friends etc. Like, if I wanna whine about something that happened at university one day, I'd feel a bit awkward doing that with a classmate since they'd already know all about it. :P And then, of course, we're interested in different things. A friend of mine really loves anime and cosplaying, which I know nothing about, so I can't really discuss those things with her on a level she would find satisfying so she talks to other friends about that. Same thing is for me and JE. My friends either hate or are all "meh" about Johnnys' so there's no point in my trying to talk to them about that since I know they don't give a duck. We focus on the things we have in common, not the things that makes us different. That's the reason I don't update my journal very ( ... )

Lol, essays can be helpful at times. XD

Thanks for your input! =3

I understand the awkwardness too. Even though probably everyone who has talked to me more than a few times know that I'm interested in Japan and all, including even a few of my profs (not including my Japanese one of course lol), but getting into Johnnys would be weird. I can only talk about them to someone I'm really close with and know about Johnnys at least somewhat.

I've considered keeping my LJ all fandom-related, but being so used to updating often, it's weird to change. I like sharing my photography stuff too, so yea, in that way, I like keeping my LJ about various things.

I'm actually surprised at the amount of people that think it's just as easy to meet people offline than it is to meet them online.

Teach me. Please. XD

I was surprised too!

I'm thinking part of the reason was that I didn't specify what type of interests? I'm sure if what you're interested in something that's more popular with the people around you, it wouldn't be hard? Things like Asian music fandoms would probably fall under a minority due to where we live. I feel that if I focus on photography (and learn a bit more about the Western popular culture), I can get along well with a few people from my classes, but I'm unable to do that, so it's easier for me to turn to friends online.
