Becoming Friends with the World

I've mentioned previously that I got dragged into the speech contest. I think it's going to be held at the beginning of March (see, I don't even know the exact date...) and technically speaking, it's best if I have the full speech written by next week or so, lol. That way I can have a month to memorize it and become familiar with it and all so it won't be so easy to get stage fright and stuff (watch me die though anyways).

From some cheesy topic about family and importance of words, I've decided to do making friends over the Internet, speech tentatively titled 世界と友達 (Friends with the World).

With that said, I was wondering if any one on my f-list have some anecdotes to share? I of course have a few of my own, but if you have any experiences or stories you think might be useful for my speech, do share.

Points in my mind right now are:
- I would have never imagined myself with friends from around the world when I was young as like an intro thing
- it's not just about meeting friends on the Internet, but in person as well
- brings a community/group together (may be due to similar interests, beliefs etc) -> may lead to offline meetings, having fun together, socializing whatnot
- cannot deny that there may be some dangers, but no good to be too wary either
- many functions/applications/websites/whatnot on Internet that brings people together, of course like LJ/blog communties, Facebook, forums, Skype...

Even general points you think I should cover in my speech, feel free to point out.

It's just a 4 minute speech, so I can't talk about too much, but better to have a few more ideas to choose from than trying to stretch one or two points out.

Thanks~
