today i went to southfork for lunch with my parents and then to best buy where i chose some xmas presents.
-aeon flux cartoon box set dvds
-aqua teen hunger force vol 4 dvd
-home movies season 3 dvd
-denis leary no cure for cancer/lock&load dvd
-spoon cd
-sufjan stevens cd
-mp3 wireless adapter thing which makes your car radio tune into it on a certain frequency
then i went to Cold Stone Creamery. the new one in Orland is finally open!! we gorged ourselves with cake batter ice cream.
then i went to see 5th wall and FCAB at the Oak Lawn Ice Arena. i showed up just as FCAB was ending their first song. ohhhh i forgot how much i enjoy seeing FCAB. (if you are wondering, FCAB stands for .... FREE CHICKEN AND BEER. and they are great) they have a very unique style. and they can actually play their instruments well. alot of current local bands rely on jumping around and making all their songs sound the same and blah blah blah... but FCAB has always had certain elements that make them worthwhile. Mark and Stefan are so talented. they move and get into it without having to jump around. They combine metal and ska and blues and punk. AND it works. the solos Mark played were fantastic. i've never seen someone shred like that. you can tell theyre having a good time even though there werent that many people in the room during their set. well you know what FCAB, I LOVE YOU. I always have. play here more.
then Shortstop played... and i thought Dominic was supposed to fill in as bassist, but i guess they found someone else. they werent bad, but they didnt really stand out to me. I know Drew Neely plays alot of instruments or knows alot of bands and seems like an all around good guy, but they really didnt impress me from all ive heard about them. perhaps it was just the bad acoustics in the room.
then some other band came on. Regrettable ME? is that the name? i didnt catch it. but i dont regret it. they had a black singer. i must be prejudiced because i didnt expect them to sound like they did. he had a pretty good voice but all the songs sounded the same. the only thing i liked was when they did the "RUNAROUND SUE" cover and one of the guitarists broke out a saxophone!
i did not enjoy the stupid highschool freshman looking girls dancing like idiots. that was lame. it just reminds me how much i dislike people. hah the bass player was the most entertaining of however many people are in that band. 5? 6? whatever.
last was 5th Wall. of course. saving the best for last. i was told that their new guitarist was going to play with them tonight, but he did not. apparently Dominic mis-informed me. thats ok. i still think they pull off the three-piece very well, though i do sort of miss seeing Tony up there. the best part was when Craig was jumping around and broke the stage. that sure gave me a good chuckle. why did he have to invite the dancing pack of idiot girls on stage? that was stupid. i wish the stage broke when they were up there.... anyway.. i love hearing them play "radio". thats definitely my favorite. they really need to finish their new record so i can listen to it all the time. and then when i have my radio show over the summer, i can play the fuck outta that song and have them come in the studio and be guests! haha
then i get home and ogie called me. no. wait. he drunk dialed me. haha thats my first drunk dial. it was funny. he better remember what he told me. you cant just tell someone you "like like" them. bah. i bet it was just the alcohol talking.
anyway. it was a good day. and now it is time to sleep because... drag. i have to work tomorrow :(
