A Distorted Reality Is Now a Necessity to Be Free

"It's too bad that people seem to sometimes only notice the dark part of some songs of mine." (Elliot Smith)

Steven Paul Smith was found to have committed [apparent] suicide this Tuesday. I found out Wednesday. I haven't felt the same since. His music has been such a huge part of my life. I have come to realize how much someone you never knew can impact you. Music presents a whole new meaning/ experience to life. When the person behind the music is gone, it leaves one with feelings of extreme emptiness. Because of such compassion, empathy and pure love for Elliot Smith, I also love Steven Paul Smith. I don't know how really to present this but many people across the country know what I speak of. His music was part of the most extremely happy and desperate moments of my life. That association will never fade. Its just that now as I listen tears come to my eyes and it is almost haunting. I wish I knew what was going on inside of his head.

You will be missed greatly. You were our generation's most talented.

"Just because people have a range of emotions and thoughts...sometimes they get ecstatically happy about something and at other times ridiculously depressed, doesn't mean that there's something wrong with them." (Elliot Smith)
