Those that have visited my house probably noticed the musical wall clock on the wall going down the stairs into the living room (or in my old house it was in the living room).
Well, I'm sitting in my room IMing Melissa and Zach and I hear a THUD, CRASH, And Mom wailing "Oh no!!" Never a good sound. I get up to see the clock had fallen from its place on the wall. It hit the banister before making its way down the stairs. The glass front is shattered. The casing is beat up and the clock face is bent. We can't see the inner mechanisms, but we are pretty sure it's all messed up. Just looking at the front of it, the glass is missing and the clock face suffered a bit of scratching. Dad fiddled with it and the music box is still in tact and working but the clock itself, nope.
I'm going to email a clock smith to get an estimate. Mom says that other than her children, that clock was her most precious possession. I was with Dad helping him pick out a clock for Mom for Christmas that year back when we had money. It's at most eight years old. Mom had hoped she'd be able to keep that the rest of her life and will it to me when she passes on. It's kind of a big deal.
I've looked up the clock maker and I
found the clock, but the songs are different :/ So even if I tried to replace it, it still wouldn't be the same. No one has the money to replace it, anyway. If I don't break down and get a new one, it's definitely the first thing we are buying when things get better. Mom sees the clock breaking as a sign that things will never get better.
