I ended up taking my Dad with me to the banquet, and he enjoyed it as much as I did. He commented on how it's a whole different world with authors and artists, because their job is to use their imagination and they profit off of touching and inspiring others. (My dad is a logical thinker, and is a commercial cabinet designer with a Bachelor's engineering and mathematics, so it was a whole different degree of thinking for him.) My dad is very happy for me and that I have obtained this job.
My boss, Lyle, is such a cool guy. A very enthusiastic and motiviational speaker. He's an actor, not an author, so it's kinda funny that he's the one that owns company.
Angie and Nate gave out awards to the authors, and that was cool to hear of their accomplishments. One day, that'll be me >3<
Lee Nelson, who is an author and works on occasion, got up and talked up the kind of books we publish. Yes, we are 95% LDS published/author is LDS, but we strive to produce uplifting books that touch people. Though our goals are mostly religious, the same kind of editing process and desicions are made on every manuscript. We base it off of Joseph Campbells 12 Writing Elements (haven't got to search it yet, but I'll post it when I find it.) He went off to list some examples of New York Times Best-Sellers and because they used those elements, that's why it appeals to the reader, even though the reader is oblivious to those elements. Same goes for box office hit movies. Our company is small, but we've grown twice in profits in the last few years because we have amazing authors.
I've never been so motivated and inpired to do my best in my novel. I need to look up those 12 elements to see if I have what it takes. My style and story is sort of different, I hope the world is ready for it :D
Dinner was barbaque chicken and pork, with mashed potatoes and salad with this yummy raspberry vinegerette *_*. For desert there was cake, lotsa cake, with STRAWBERRIES!
It's Conference Weekend aka the Saturday and Sunday where I'm awesome and do lots of art! So, I'm sorry guys, this weekend is for me to get some art school and commissions done. Also, my mom and I hang out late afternoon while my Dad and brothers go to Priesthood session. We're going to go shopping and eat at Tsing Tao.
In between sessions, I'll be doing medschool so I don't feel bad when I take off next weekend. I'll be on MSN off-and-on if you need me.
Tonight I'll possibly be seeing TMNT with
gab and
tibek. Not sure which time yet, but if it's the first evening show, I probably won't bother going home at all. I'm so excited!
The Viewtiful Joe OST is definately one of my favorites.
