Okay, it's a little harsh. However, for all of you who saw the MTV Video Music Awards a few nights ago will probably have heard what's going on by now. The host of said event, Russell Brand, made fun of the Jonas Brothers' "promise rings" or "purity rings", displaying their commitment to staying virgins until their wedding days. Some have called his jokes off-color and inappropriate. Jordin Sparks, the real reason I am writing this post, responded with this comment:
“It's not bad to wear a promise ring, because not everybody - guy or girl - wants to be a slut.”
And this girl is supposed to be a role model to our sisters, daughters, and friends? What is the world thinking when it chooses a close-minded person like Jordin Sparks to look up to?
It's fine if you want to wear a purity ring. It's fine if you want to stay a virgin until marriage; I personally don't see any logic in that, but that's your opinion, we are all Americans (at least for those in America), and we have the right as human beings to choose what we do with our bodies.
But the moment you being judging OTHERS is when you cross a line with me. Did you ever wonder how religious wars are started, how gay people and black people are suddenly relegated to second citizens? It's because people, like Jordin Sparks, have no business impeding or trying to take away someone's rights. Yet, because she's a celebrity (even though she's barely old enough to vote), people are listening to her and her narrow words.
SHE MAKES ME SO MAD! IF YOU WANT TO HAVE SEX, AND LOTS OF IT, THAT DOESN'T MAKE YOU A SLUT. IT MAKES YOU A HUMAN BEING TRYING TO SATISFY YOUR VERY NATURAL AND YOUR VERY RIGHT URGES. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO HAVE SEX BEFORE YOU ARE MARRIED, THEN YOU SHOULD IF THAT IS WHAT YOU WANT.
BUT DO NOT TRY TO MAKE OTHERS FEEL BAD, JUST BECAUSE.
