Continuing Saga of Andy and His Boys

James happily handed off the bartender to the uniforms. He wanted to get away from that bar as fast as possible. He also wanted to take as many showers as he could stand to get the brunette's scent off of him ( Read more... )

“Not like Zek hasn’t laid one on me a couple times,” Zayne said, dismissing James’ worry.

“What?” James looked up at him with disbelief. “There’s no way. He’s too reserved.”

Zayne grinned. “It was a crazy few days undercover, that’s all I’m gonna say.”

“You’re gonna kill me, Reyes.”

“But what about your girlfriend,” Jake asked, his curiosity getting the better of him.

“She’d only be mad if she didn’t get to watch,” he said, unconcerned. “She and Rollins are weird like that. I don’t get it.”

Jake snorted.

“This is not how I wanted to spend my morning,” James groaned.

“Hey, it could be worse,” Zayne said.

“And if one more person tells me that this morning…”

Zayne patted James on the head. “It’ll be okay, gingerbread.”

“Aw,” someone cooed from across the bullpen. “Isn’t that cute.”

Zayne flipped him off. “Back to your cave, Burkowski.”

“Go to hell, Reyes.”

“I swear I’m already there,” he said to James and Jake. “And now I need to get back upstairs before Zek comes looking for me.”

“Go away, Reyes,” James teased. “And quit betting money on us. It’ll never last.”

Zayne batted his eyes at James. “That’s what you think, narco.”

(Oh you know it’s going to be fun!)

"Zayne," Andy said from behind the cowboy causing him to jump. "Quit harrassing James."

"Damnit, Zek!" Zayne exclaimed. "Stop sneaking up on me. Damn near gave me a heart attack!"

Andy rolled his eyes while James and Jake laughed at Zayne's drama llama antics.

"I hate y'all," Zayne muttered.

"In that case," James drawled. "Might not be too late to get your money back."

"I already did," Andy firmly said still not happy to have heard about the betting pool in the first place.

"What? How? Who?" tumbled from Zayne's lips.

"You might want to have a talk with Hillary, Zayne," Andy replied. "And Jake, you shouldn't encourage that kind of behavior."

Zayne and James turned as one and glared at Jake.

"Aww fuck! I'm dead," Jake mumbled as he tried to make himself as small as possible in his chair.

(I was feeling slightly evil.)

“If you’re lucky,” Zayne drawled. “What the hell, Hansen?”

“No joke,” James added. “It’s bad enough his damn girlfriend thought this up, but you helped her?”

Jake shrugged. “It sounded like fun at the time.”

James shook his head and sighed. “I’m going to throttle you one of these days.”

“Not before I strangle my girlfriend,” Zayne grunted.

“Zayne,” Andrej said. “With all that Hilary has put up with because of you, I am not sure you have any grounds to be angry with her.”

Zayne started to deny the accusation and then laughed. “Yeah, you’re probably right about that.”

“I think I know how I can make this up to you,” Jake said. “Or at least start.”

“How’s that,” James asked, not really believing his partner.

“Have Zeklos put some money down on the pool,” he said, holding a hand out to keep Andrej from protesting. “Then go upstairs and, in front of everyone, hit Reyes with a big, fat, wet one.”

“That’s probably a little too kinky for work hours, Hansen,” Zayne laughed.

“How’s this supposed to make up for anything?”

“Because we’ll put him down for the exact day and time you kiss Reyes.”

“So Zek will win the pot,” Zayne laughed. “Devious, but a good idea.”

“I want nothing to do with this,” Andrej muttered. “But if it will stop this nonsense, I will help you.”

“Beautiful,” James said.

(I can see that. And I like it.)

"I'm dealing with children," Andy muttered.

"It's going to be okay, Zek," Zayne said hoping he sounded reassuring.

Andy shook his head and resigned himself to his fate. "It's nine fifteen. I'm going back upstairs and placing a bet for nine-thirty. Do not be late."

"Alright," James agreed.

Andy caught hold of Zayne and propelled him out of the room and back upstairs.

"If this works out, you'll still be in the dog house," James told Jake. "If it doesn't, you'll be dead, but it won't be by my hand."

"I'll just be over here getting my affairs in order," Jake mumbled.

James checked his watch and sighed. It was time. “I’m going.”

“I’ll follow, but I’ll give it a couple minutes,” Jake replied.

“Fine,” James said, wondering if this really was a good idea. Taking a deep breath, he headed for the stairs.

“Goddamn you, Reyes,” he shouted, bursting into homicide like he worked there. “What the hell is your problem?”

Startled, Zayne looked up to see the redhead barreling towards him. Standing, he moved to meet James head on.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, gingerbread,” he said, trying not to crack a smile and ruin everything.

James gave him a shove, causing Zayne to take two steps backwards. “You told me you’d be there for me and you lied.”

“I’m - I’m sorry,” he stammered, truly unsure of what the hell was going on. He thought James was just going to kiss him, not try and kick his ass.

“Yeah, that’s what you said last time you broke a date, asshole.” James rubbed a hand across his face, trying to steady his nerves. “And I needed you, why didn’t you show up?”

“I was working,” he said. “Ask Zek, he’ll tell you.”

“Leave me out of your affairs, Zayne,” Andrej sighed.

“Yeah, don’t drag your partner into your shit,” James grunted.

“Like you don’t do the same damn thing with Hansen,” Zayne responded.

“That doesn’t matter,” James said, knowing they had to get away from the topic of Jake before everything fell apart. “You said you’d come over last night.”

“I know, I’m sorry,” Zayne said, attempting to sound like he was sorry. “We got caught up here and -”

“Does that mean you’re hooking up with him now?” James threw his hands in the air. “At least he’s cute, but really Reyes?”

“Man, it’s not like that,” he stage whispered. “He’s my partner.”

“What about me?”

“You’re everything else,” Zayne said.

An odd grin crept across James’ face.

“Really?”

Zayne nodded and James grabbed his shirt, pulling him forward. Their lips met awkwardly and Zayne felt his body tense for a second. Remembering why they were doing this, he forced himself to relax and allowed James to take control. Slipping an arm around Zayne’s waist, James pulled him closer. A chorus of shocked gasps surrounded the room when James nudged Zayne’s mouth open. Surprisingly, Zayne let him. He closed his eyes and tried not to think about the fact it was James, and not Hilary or even Zek for that matter, and simply kissed the one holding him.

“Okay,” Hilary finally spluttered. “Okay you two, that’s enough I think.”

Laughing, James pulled back and patted Zayne’s cheek. “I get it now, cowboy. I can see why the girls can’t get enough of you.” He winked and headed for the door, unable to look at Andrej for fear of what he might see on his boyfriend’s face.

Zayne collapsed into his chair and sighed. “How the hell do I get myself into these situations?”

“Because you do not use your brain,” Andrej replied, eyes glued to the file on his desk.

“Yeah, maybe,” Zayne said. “But I gotta admit - he wasn’t bad, but you’re a much better kisser.”

Andrej’s pen faltered on the word he was writing. He gripped it a little more tightly and said, voice guarded, “Thank you, now please get back to work.”

Hillary walked up to their desks and asked, "Whose idea was that little scene?"

"I guess that means Zek doesn't win?" Zayne countered.

"Andy isn't that devious, so spill."

"Hansen's," Zayne admitted. "Since when did you two become best buds?"

"Since my boyfriend spends more time with his partner and his boyfriend than me," Hillary countered.

(This is the best I can come up with because I'm still chuckling about James little scene.)

“Hey now,” Zayne said. “If anything, my partner is my boyfriend. The ginger is just an accessory.”

“He is not wrong, Hilary,” Andrej added. “Although most of the time, I feel like his mother and not his lover.”

“I honestly don’t know about you two sometimes,” Hilary sighed.

“Can Zek at least get his money back if you’re not going to give him the whole pot?”

Hilary looked over the tops of their heads at her partner and her new partner in crime. Both shrugged. “What the hell, Andy,” she said. “More than anyone, you deserve the whole thing for putting up with this idiot. And that redheaded narco, too.”

Trish came over and dumped a wad of cash onto Zeklos’ desk. “It just over five hundred bucks. Have fun at the bookstore.”

“What?” Zayne rubbed his eyes and looked at the pile of money a second time. “Holy crap, do the officers in this damn place have nothing better to do with their time?”

“Maybe not,” Trish said. “Or maybe they were curious whether your dumb ass would go through with it or not.”

“You never challenge a Texan to anything,” Andrej said, still staring at the money. He poked at it with his pen, as if assuring himself it was real. “I have learned this the hard way. If he thinks you believe he will not go through with something it gives him that much more motivation to do it.”

“I can vouch for that,” Hilary said, an oddly affectionate smile on her face.

“Point taken,” Trish said. “I guess it’s back to work now. How boring.”

(It’s all good. I’m happy it made you laugh.)

"It's not even ten," Zayne said with a wry grin. "Give the criminal element time to wake up, sober up and plan their next evil activity."

"Whatever," Trish sighed dramaticaly and flounced back to her desk.

Jake shook his head and headed back downstairs.

(I needed that laugh, so thank you.)

“He acts like the local criminal element ever sleeps,” Hilary laughed. “This is a twenty-four hour town, Reyes.”

“So, you’ve got a point, baby, but my point stands.”

“Andy, can you help me here?”

“No, I cannot,” he said, giving Hilary an encouraging smile. “I have done my good deed for the day. It is someone else’s turn now.”

Zayne laughed loudly, startling Andrej. “God, I love you, you know that right?”

Andrej smiled. “I do now, Zayne.”

“Oy and vey,” Hilary muttered. “And here I was worried about other women.”

“Right,” Trish said. “Instead, he kisses one man and tells another he loves them. I’m thinking you have a bigger problem on your hands, Maxwell.”

(Happy to help, and even happier it came off as amusing as I hoped it would.)

"I quit," Hillary sighed. "Let's go for a coffee run. I need some fresh air and eclair."

"Sounds like a plan," Trish said. "You want anything, Andy?"

"No thank you," Andy replied as he tidied up his winnings and placed them in his wallet.

"What about me?" Zayne whined.

"What about you, Reyes?" Trish countered.

"You didn't ask me if I wanted anything."

"You're a big boy and can fend for yourself," Trish told him. "I owe Andy."

(Zayne's being a whinny butt. Jay's ready to kick his butt and Andy wants to run away. Help!)

“Fine, whatever you two,” Zayne said, waving them off. “I’ll just grab Zek and take him to breakfast.”

“I have already eaten, Zayne,” Andrej said. “I believe you know this.”

“Yeah, well, I’m hungry,” he whined.

Andrej laughed. “And I now possess a pile of cash.”

Zayne laughed. “I wasn’t going to ask you to pay for once,” he said. “Seriously.”

“Go down to narcotics and ask Jay and Jake if they would like to join us,” Andrej said. “I will meet you down there in a few minutes. I want to finish this report I was working on before you decided to bring more chaos into my life.”

“Aye, aye,” Zayne said, giving a mock salute and walking away.
“You sure you want to be stranded in a restaurant with the three of them,” Trish asked.

Andrej considered this for a moment and sighed. “Do you think they would be offended if I left a note and a pile of money?”
Trish cackled. “Not Reyes, he’d take the money and run for the nearest taco truck.”

“She’s not wrong,” Hilary agreed.

(So, in other words, this is about to get interesting? And we're way beyond help at this point.)

"I wish I could do that," Andy sighed. "But my mother raised me not to be impolite."

"Well, if they force you to commit homicide, we'll investigate and find you guilty by reason of insanity," Trish quipped.

"Thank you, I think," Andy murmured not certain of her sanity.

"Come on," Hillary said grabbing hold of Trish's arm. "You're not helping."

Trish shrugged.

(Very interesting, and like I tell my customers; I'm half crazy and quarter til pyschotic.)

Shaking his head and wondering why he’d ever left his homeland, Andrej made his way down to narcotics in search of his boyfriend, his partner, and Jake.

“Oh hey, here he is now,” Zayne said, grinning in Andrej’s direction. “You ready for breakfast?”

“I am ready for coffee,” Andrej said. “I have already had breakfast.”

Zayne nodded. “Good, because these two are starving apparently.”
Jake shrugged. “I had a busy morning.”

“And I had a stressful one,” James added. “Which makes me even hungrier.”

Laughing, Andrej waved his hand towards the door. “Let’s go get food then before you are all skin and bones.”

“Not sure there’s any chance of that happening,” James joked, slapping a hand against Zayne’s firm, flat stomach.

“Watch it, narco, or I’ll make you compare abs.”

“Not happening,” James grunted. “Not now or ever.”

“He’s so boring,” Zayne whined, winking at Andrej.

“Yeah, well, not all of us can handle a life like yours, Reyes,” Jake teased. “Enjoy it for us, okay?”

(I can totally see that, too.)

"Whatever, Hansen," Zayne retorted with a laugh. "Some of us are absolutely fabulous, that's all."

Andy, James and Jake just groaned.

"It's gonna be a very long day," James muttered as he slid into the passenger seat of Andy's car before Reyes.

(A very, very, very looonnnggg day. :( )

“I do not know why you are complaining,” Andrej said as he started the car. “I am the one who has to deal with him until five o’clock. Once breakfast is over, you are free.”

James laughed. “I like how you think, even if I feel for your situation.”

“I think the narco ought to pay for breakfast,” Zayne offered. “He ought to do something with that kind of an attitude.”

Jake chuckled in the back seat beside Zayne. “You don’t know the half of it, Reyes,” he said. “On a bad day, he can have more attitude than a teenage girl who was just dumped.”

“You can shut up any time now, Hansen,” James grunted.

(Sorry it’s going to be such a long day. Mine’s been crazy busy and I don’t even have to deal with half of what you do. )

"I'm still in the proverbial dog house so what more can you do to me?"Jake tossed back.

"Asshole," James grumbled.

"Everyone thinks I'm a drama llama," Zayne quipped with a chuckle earning him a glare from Andy via the rearview mirror. "But you are giving me a run for money."

"It's not too late to drive out to Lake Mead and drown them," James suggested. "No one would be the wiser."

(I'm so tired of the half-assed organization that comes with the holiday season. I'm ready to shoot somebody and burn all the merch. Ugh...)
