Anecdotes, not antidotes.
Sterile, not sterol.
And the Pet Shop Boys cover of You Were Always On My Mind is kind of the best ever post-Reichenbach Sherlock/John song ever. If I were a vidder (hummed to the tune of If I Were A Rich Man)...
I'd embed the video but apparently youtube, while no longer blocked at work, just doesn't WORK at work. ALAS.
And but so, yeah. I've been reading a lot of fic (primarily XMFC and Sherlock) and I'm seeing a higher instance of words that are words but which mean other things. Antidotes/anecdotes is, I think, fairly common. "Sterol" instead of "sterile" cracks me up because it's SUCH a phonetic mistake. And sterols exist! They are steroid alcohols!
The one that drives me up a wall is the weary/wary confusion.
Wary means cautious. Weary means tired. But I see weary used all the time when context indicates the author meant wary.
That one actually bothers me way more than, like, effect/affect - that one is genuinely confusing. I mean, as a general rule, affects cause effects. But there are other less frequently used meanings that make it harder than just saying one is a verb and the other a noun.
ANYWAY.
