VACATION REPORT (JUST ONE MONTH LATE!!)

Jul 03, 2011 17:02

So, last you all heard from me I was heading off to Hawaii. Sadly, I didn’t stay there, but returned some time ago. I took some photos and am prepared to share the epic adventure of nearly missed planes and an even more narrow brush with drowning at sea with those of you interested ( Read more... )

Wow, your parents look so young! I see where you get your genes from. I looove the pictures (omg TURTLE!!!!!), and I'm glad you didn't die. That would have been a serious bummer. Though yes, I do recommend Bryson as a good way to learn Things You Ought to Know. ;-)

HOUSE! Good luck, bebeh! You'll have to show pictures and stuff when you move in! &hearts

Bryson taught me how to fall down a steep slope in the Wye Valley in Wales. Of course the way he did it was funnier than mine... even if it was the same hill!! XDDD ;)

I hope I age like they have... I'll have to start taking better care of myself. They eat well, don't smoke and get lots of exercise. I eat so much that a veggie or two is bound to get through now and then, but am not so good with the getting up and about bits.

I saw Bryson has a new book out on the origin of words and the evolution of the english language. Have you seen it? I thought it looked right up your alley when I spotted it.

Hmm... dunno. I assumed the book was new, because it was in hardcover in a prominent shelf spot (I thought "new releases") at the bookstore. I don't remember if that was the title or not, but maybe it was...

I looked on amazon and I think it was Mother Tongue I saw. Must have been recently recommended by a book club or something! Dang he is prolific... are his guides for writers useful? What about his book on Shakespeare?

His book on Shakespeare was interesting (and nicely short), and I do like his Dictionary of Troublesome Words quite a bit. I'm currently reading Made in America (about English in the US) in dribs and drabs at night, and that's interesting, too.
