I recently promised a friend (or two) that I'd try to keep them appraised of the happenings and occurrences in my life via my Livejournal, something I've tried several times over the years. Anyway, here's my first real post in about a year.
These days I'm mostly busy with work. I've been working the Graveyard Shift at McDonald's for two months now, with a consistent schedule of forty hours a week. Full time work is, well, kind of a drag, man. When I finally get back to taking classes I'm going to truly appreciate the luxury that is being a student.
Work at McD's actually isn't all that bad. For one thing, working there means that my monthly food budget will be absurdly low, thanks to all the free food I get. My diet isn't even that unhealthy, considering it mostly comes from a fast food restaurant. For lunch (dinner?) I usually have a caesar salad with grilled chicken and no dressing, accompanied by some apple slices and orange juice. It's all quite tasty, actually. (Aiee! I've been a corporate sales drone! Flee my subversive advertising!)
Perhaps the strangest part about my schedule is that I really don't like weekends. My work week begins on Friday night, and Friday and Saturday are our two busiest days of the week, for obvious reasons. This is particularly true of a college town. It also means that during breaks in school our business is just about dead. When most of our customers are out of town, things tend to be slow. Ah, how I miss winter break... A corollary to this fact is that I absolutely love Sunday through Tuesday. I get paid a fairly decent amount to do such busywork as stocking up our supplies of drink cups and dipping sauces. It's a nice gig, frankly.
Of course, it goes without saying that I am an exemplary employee, despite my relatively short period of employment and the fact that I've never been employed before. In fact, my managers have already started talking about promoting to swing manager. I'm flattered, of course, and already thinking how wonderful this will look on a resume, but on the other hand I'm not sure I want to become that involved with a job at McDonald's. Perhaps I'll move on to a better job pretty soon, or maybe I'll just stay where I am for a while and continue to earn "mad monies."
That's all for now, but I have many months of living to cover here, so I'll try to remember to write about it later.
