What really sucks is my 'o' key will not work unless I punch it with both fists at the same time. So about halfway through this post I'll break one of my hands and you'll have to deal with adding the o's yourselves.
Yesterday I was taking a break from the hours of homework I had to do when I decided to look up information on most of the colleges I even have a slight interest in. After the usual trips to Cornell, Ohio State, Miami and Duke, I surfed on the Internet over to the princetonreview.com and collegeboard.com profiles of Washington University in St. Louis. I hadn't really looked into it before, but it sounded decent, I guess. After I looked around some more at it and its actual website, I'm dead set on going there. I had intended just to go to Miami simply because it's relatively cheap and it's far enough away that my parents won't come knock on my door every Saturday. I wasn't really too ecstatic of the thought of going there, though. After reading up about Wash U enough, though, I did a mental backflip and had a big grin on my face because I'm a pretty weird guy. One of the student responses to some survey on The Princeton Review said something like "Students there are academically serious, but are laid-back about it." Well hell, that's how I am already! Its geographic location is both an advantage and a disadvantage. It's plenty far enough away to keep ma and pa away, but they might not go along with my decision to go THAT far away. Sure, they say "you need to go where you think you need to go" but I'm pretty sure that means I need to go where I think I need to go, provided it is less than two hours away. Whoops!
A couple other disadvantages. It's the 11th hardest college to get into in the nation, and I'm not THAT smart, really. Even if I survive the 25% chance I have of acceptance, I'm not going to get much in the way of scholarships from the school itself. I'd have to get into a good work-study program and take out a huge loan, I imagine. Dad has some college fund set up for me but when I last checked it (6-8 months ago I'd say) there was something like $1000 in it. That'll cover the gas to get from here to St. Louis and little else.
I'll spare you the obligatory beginning-of-school class report because nobody reads them except me anyway.
