Character Information
General
Canon Source: Bleach
Canon Format: Manga
Character's Name: Gin Ichimaru (written Western-style)
Character's Age: Never exactly stated that I can find, but Gin is over a hundred.
What form will your character's NV take? ... it looks like a black butterfly. Partly because hell butterflies are messengers in canon, partly just to annoy him. (It will not be living! It's electronic. The viewscreen is on one wing and it folds together when not in use.)
Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities: Gin is a Shinigami. He's got the spiritual abilities, the magic abilities, the brain, and the expertise to look out for himself.
More here in his wiki for WALL OF TEXT.Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? n/a.
Weapons: Gin carries his zanpakuto, Shinsou. It's also possible he's tranformed himself partly into one of the canon half-monster beasts in which case he'd have an alternate weapon form... but that's not looking very likely at this point in canon.
History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: Gin's history is sketchily drawn. We don't know what happened to his parents, or if he ever had any. The first time we see Gin, he's on his own as a child. His very first act is one of kindness as he saves Rangiku from starvation. Although he rather creepily gives Rangiku the birthday of the day he found her, he later takes care of her through both their childhoods.
But Gin eventually betrays her. She blocks one of his attacks meant for one of her friends. It's so strong that it puts cracks in the sword linked to her soul, but Gin leaves the battlefield rather than fight her. (She had a cracked sword. It probably wouldn't have gone well.) He also appears to have spent years breaking down his spirited lieutenant, Kira, into someone much more pliant and perfectly obedient. However, when he hears Kira raging about Gin's name being mentioned, Gin smiles and says he's glad Kira is doing well. Only his allies Tousen and Aizen could possibly have heard him, so it's possible he was telling something like the truth. It's possible that although he betrayed Rangiku's trust, he believes he's doing it for her good in the long run.
It's significant that in canon, we never get answers about Gin's motivations. In Gin's appearances, his words go against his actions and his actions are often unclear. Even when we know what he's thinking, he may still act as if he's got something entirely different in mind. As an example, in a recent chapter he spends much of the most recent chapter thinking about how scary the protagonist is as an enemy, but stands there cheerfully talking to him. Even more so, he's the only character I can recall in canon to tuck their weapon under their arm to free their hands for illustrative waving.
Although I will be playing the character as consistently as possible, I also feel as if I can't answer some questions about Gin without pushing him into original-character territory. I will be trying to ninja questions about what Aizen offered him, why he betrayed Rangiku, and other very deep motivators. However, I can say that most of the time, he is motivated by curiosity, malice, or one of the basic needs. His plans will be as multilayered as knowledge and opportunity allow.
Point in Canon: 400, possibly around 401 when he is wondering if he just interrupted his captain's speech by smashing the protagonist through it. Whoopsie.
Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: Gin went about talking to other people in the game, figuring out how they ticked and why they were agents... and also went on a few missions to other worlds (one "seek that object" quest, failed, and one "kill that thing.") He left an undetermined point after agreeing to meet up to learn to fly mechas. I don't know if that was actually threaded by others and him established as absent or not... but I'd like to use it, as signing him up was a bit of a high point. (He does not own a mecha, nor will he be bringing one into the game.)
Character Personality: Gin comes across as creepy to others in canon. He's quite cold, aloof, quite patient, quite calculating, and extremely enigmatic. A quote by the artist of Bleach suggests that his smile is mostly to intimidate. It's one of the main reasons he wears it, but I think he also uses it to disarm, to mask, to confuse, or, rarely, to show he's happy.
Gin spends his time analyzing others and pushing their buttons. He's too smart for his own good. He learns intensely; he graduated the Shinigami Academy in a year, and he knew bits of law pertaining to a gate guard's duties the guardsman himself did not know. While he is a child, he commits the murder of a superior, although canon never explains why.
Gin is sarcastic to the point where people will probably have some difficulty telling when he's not being sarcastic. If something matters to him, he will pretend it does not for as long as possible. He's quite good at misdirection, so he can usually keep others from making him confront it.
While he's good at wearing the armor of a hero, he's not very good at all at looking trustworthy, even when he's being it to the best of his ability. He was obviously held in high regard in Soul Society, accepted as a Captain in his own right. However, when the master plan he probably helped concoct went into action, he became the red herring, naturally drawing distrust and hostility. Aizen obviously trusts him, but how much, truly, and how much that's worth are both not yet clearly defined by canon.
Conditional: Personality development in previous game: He hung around making observations and drawing conclusions, but his CR didn't affect his character. However, it does take care of the usual "where am I?! How do I get home?" stretch of questions.
Character Plans: ...my long-term goal is to infiltrate him into all three comms as an apparently loyal member. However, he won't have much use for this information. Since he was a world-jumping agent in a nexus RP, he figures the bureaucracy he worked for will either fish him out, or he'll spot a way himself. He mostly just wants to learn everything and mess with people.

First Person Sample [It's been some time since Gin got up and brushed himself off, and he's just been standing there, smiling, an ear turned to the black butterfly in his hand. His shadow's moved a little by the time he speaks]
So much trouble and sad talk~ Isn't anyone out there havin' as great a day as I am?
[And who could doubt he's happy? He's smiling!]
Third Person Sample
Gin's first reaction on feeling the pull of a dimensional warp was annoyance. He was busy. His second was confusion. This wasn't any place he'd seen before, and there was no gate behind him. Well. That made getting back a little tricky. Especially the part where he got back before taichou started making more comments about sightseeing while he fought. And then he found the strange black thing in his hand. Definitely some kind of communicator... but not quite like the one he'd had before.
So he stood, listening to people's announcements and open conversations. Was someone getting their own agents? Was this some sort of prison? He stood patiently, smiling to himself. He was learning voices and the tones and words they picked, putting together names and faces and motives.
It was his favorite thing about a new place. So much to learn.
