Well, the New York City trip got postponed to next weekend, due to the fact that the friend of Josh's that he and I were going to stay with called and was like "OMG I totally forgot I had midterms next week so I have to study and you guys can't come." So, that kind of sucks, but we're planning to go next weekend. I'll get there someday!!
Anyways, I promised pictures this weekend though, so here are some that I took this afternoon. I went for a walk down in Cambridge (I just really like Cambridge!) and took some pictures, because it was so pretty outside, and the trees are so beautiful... I know I didn't inherit my dad's gene for taking really good pictures, but I tried. And one of them turned out super awesome. One out of lots, but still :)
It was busy today all along North Harvard Street; I guess there is some kind of Ivy League rowing competition (what do you call a tournament in rowing? I thought it was a regatta, but then I remembered that was sailing. I think.) Anyways, the bridge over the Charles was completely crowded, and there were lots of rowers everywhere with rowing team jackets from colleges with fancy names. But... the Charles was still beautiful :)
When I first saw this window in my explorations of Cambridge, it immediately struck me as the window that they must have used in the movie "A Beautiful Mind". Do you remember the scenes where they showed him in his window working, and you were looking in the window from the outside, and the seasons change? I thought it looked exactly like that. But when I've seen it since then, it doesn't really strike me as being that window anymore... ah well. It's still really nice!
Some buildings; one of them is a church, and the second one I think is the "House of Public Administration" or something like that, I'm not sure. But! They are cool-looking.
This reminded me of Old Strathcona back home, a bit, the way the trees grew right over the road.
This is Tower Records, which is apparently going out of business. I thought I'd check it out, what the hell. Anyways... last night I was listening to some Stravinsky with Pete - Rite of Spring is Pete's favourite thing ever. Anyways, after that, I thought that there were some points in Rite of Spring that reminded me of some of Puccini's orchestration in Turandot, strangely enough. I don't even know why, but I thought that, and then I thought, damn, do I want to listen to Turandot again. And I realized that I only had a few tracks of it on my iTunes, and that made me sad, especially because I've been meaning to buy a recording of Turandot for a while now, and haven't found one that I wanted and was in my price range. So I thought I'd go in. Anyways, everything in the store was on sale, because they're going out of business, and I found some really great deals on opera CDs! Opera CDs are expensive... they are always 2 CDs or more, and often they have the entire libretto in the liner notes, which makes for pretty much the biggest book of liner notes you have ever seen. But yeah, great deals! I got Turandot (with Carreras singing Calaf, no less!) for $17, and then I got Wozzeck and Nabucco for $10... I've wanted to listen to Wozzeck for a while now, because I studied it for my last RCM history exam in May, and it seemed like it would be really interesting. So! Yays for opera.
And this is the picture that I took that turned out beautifully. I didn't doctor this at all! I'm so proud! Ahahaha. It's Harvard Stadium, which is only a couple of blocks away from my house. And it's very cool-looking, as you will see.
So... that is all for now! Maybe next time there will be pictures with people in them. But I think I have to get my hair cut first; it kind of looks like crap.
Bye!
