"...and start all over again..."
...since I haven't written since December. You know. It's okay. But I guess this is for anyone who's made a comment to me about not LJ-ing in the past four months (hi Mom! Hi Greg! Hi Nick!) so I'm trying again. Who knows if it will work? I don't.
And what better time to start all over again than now? Now being when I'm sick for the second time this spring, and realizing that I have to deal with all the stuff that's stressing me out. I know I get sick when I get stressed; it's my body's way of telling me I need to calm the hell-ass down. Which I should.
Things That Are Going On, Will Go On, Or Have Gone On, In No Particular Order
1. My grad recital!
My Berklee grad recital is coming up soon! It's going to be on Monday, May 5th at 7PM in the Berk Recital Hall. This gives me just over four weeks to get prepared. I'm nervous about this because I've only just put a band together, and our first rehearsal is next week. And... I'm not even terribly stressed about how they are going to sound, or even how I am going to sound... I'm stressed about booking rehearsal space and times. It's not like Berklee could make that any more difficult. And it's not like the schedules of my musicians could be any more cluttered. Grar.
2. Graduation
'Nuf said. Stressful much?
3. Summer classes
Bunker Hill Community College, here I come. That is, as soon as I register.
4. Some kind of work this summer
Berklee's vocal department is looking for accompanists. As much as I hate accompanying singers, a job like that will allow me to stay in Boston, which is what I want to do.
5. Final exams
It's REALLY easy to forget about those when all this other stuff is coming up. I mean REALLY easy. I'm somewhat behind in a few classes... this is probably another reason why I haven't written in a while.
6. Recording sessions
I definitely have a few late-night (2AM-6AM) sessions under my belt. However, depending on who you're recording with, they aren't always such a drag. I've been lucky enough to record with some awesome dudes, and it's been super fun.
7. A radio appearance
I went on the Berklee Internet Radio Network a couple weeks ago with my friend Mike, on his show "The Melting Pot". He wanted to do a show of all Canadian music after his spring break trip to Toronto, so I went on the air with him and tried to showcase the best our dear country has to offer.
8. More recording sessions
This summer, I'll be recording an album with Mike, in the band we play in, called "Greedy Cherry". Hoorays for tasty pop music!
9. Gigs!
We hope. Greedy Cherry is playing at Berklee on April 22nd, and hopefully a bit while we're recording. Another band that is yet unnamed (six-piece funk/soul/rock band, covers and originals, Canadian and Mexican in origin but playing in Boston - any suggestions?) has a gig already lined up at the beginning of the summer, and hopefully a few more on the way.
10. Arranging
I arranged a tune for a nine-piece Berklee horn band that got played twice last month. It was pretty sweet, too.
11. Even more recording sessions!
Nick, another friend from Berklee, was recently made a godfather (yay!) He's writing a suite for his godson, and we're going to record it in May.
I think that's all I have for that kind of thing... I dunno. I started dating one of the aforementioned "awesome dudes" (see item 6) and that's been going rather well, I think. Possibly will have more arrangements on the go for the nine-piece, but I think that might have to wait until after school is done.
I keep looking so forward to school being over - it just seems like I have a bunch of not-stress to look forward to. Not-stress is awesome! Though I don't know whether or not it will actually be not-stress... I suppose I'll just have to wait and see.
We'll also have to wait and see whether I write again in the next four months. Who knows!
