Okay, bad pun, hahaha, not funny.
But seriously! Josh had this thought a few weeks ago; there are so many amazing musicians at Berklee from other countries (i.e. mostly Japan) that we don't even talk to, let alone jam with, because we can't speak the same language. So, Josh is starting to learn Japanese, and thought we all should. The rest of the roomies kind of shot him down, but he is persisting. And... to be honest, I didn't really give the idea a whole lot of thought at first either, mostly because I didn't know very many Japanese students. However, I recently played a recital with Shige, who is a singer I knew from the jazz choir I was in last term. He is Japanese, and the players in his band were also Japanese, and they were totally amazing to play with! I mean, we just played five jazz tunes, but seriously... it was awesome. I really want to jam with them again! Shige also had his funk band play, and they were mostly from Japan as well, and after the recital we all went out for Thai food, and had an interesting time with language barriers, but it was a total blast. So... I think I'm going to start learning Japanese. And if I fail (or rather, become too busy, or more likely, too lazy) I'm going to take a Japanese for Beginners class in the fall at Berklee, for my humanities elective! It will be amazing.
So, Berklee hockey. We were playing against Tufts University. It was a very intense game! In the first period alone, three guys got thrown out of the game for fighting. I've never seen a game quite like that. It was a fun game too; all the Canadian girls were there, so we talked Canadian for a bit, which is always fun. When the bus got back to Berklee (the students' association rented a bus because the game was in East Boston, i.e., far away) we and a few other fans went to the cafeteria where an Aerosmith cover band was playing. Listened to that for a while, and then went to Leo's house, where we jammed jazz for a while; Leo didn't have a keyboard, so I sang, and that was really refreshing, because as much as I do the a cappella ensemble and the jazz vocal lab, it's not the same, and I definitely don't get to scat that much. We just did bass, violin and voice for a while, then we were joined by a guitar, so it had a definite gypsy-jazz feel to what we were doing. Fun times!
Bill, our neighbor to the north (i.e. my side of the house), is having a party. I am not amused. It is nearly 2 in the morning. There are lights flashing in my window even though my blinds are drawn, and I can hear his shitty techno playing even though I am wearing heavy duty earplugs. What makes it worse is that whenever we make the slightest amount of noise, even before like 10 or so, he's outside on his porch yelling at us to shut up. I repeat; I am not amused.
