Happy Birthday - to meeeee!!

Thank you to realscape for the virtual champagne, much appreciated especially since I can't have the real stuff being forbidden alkeehol for the nonce. (probably forever actually)

I have had a lovely birthday
When I got to work today one of the junior sisters had made me a screen saver saying Happy 50th Birthday Sharon, with balloons and cake and pressies and champagne on it...lovely.

I opened the ward diary to check on the status of patients to find a lovely card (picture tomorrow) signed by all the nursing staff and nursing assistants. Then I got a hug from every single member of staff and one or two of the patients ( I swear the patients seemed as excited by my birthday as I was LOL )

During lunch - when I was in the middle of eating - a guy came into our small staff room and called out my name, sounding official and kind of doomladen....before pulling a huge bouquet out from behind his back and presenting it to me on behalf of the ward staff - they all chipped in for it apparently. I blushed so hard I could feel my face getting really hot and I know that there were a few tears in my eyes...it was especially special since flowers are banned from the ward because of our cancer patients' compromised immune systems...

They were safely hidden away again somewhere they could do no harm and I collected them when I left work...ON TIME (YAYAY) - then came home, had a bubble bath and a nap (getting old you know *g*) before getting dressed up to be taken out to dinner by hubby, daughter and daughter's boyfriend to a swanky Indian Restaurant called The Maharajah - where the waiters look like something out of a Bollywood Movie, smart turqouise silk jackets with gold braid on them, crisp white table cloths - subdued lighting, gorgeous window hangings - one hesitates to use such a pedestrian word as 'curtain' about them...and a really awesome menu.

We unwrapped my presents and my cards in the restaurant, again pictures tomorrow...hubby bought me some gag gifts and a gorgeous Rennie Mackintosh stained glass box for putting some jewellery in. Daughter and boyfriend had arranged a gig for the night, with Roddy Woomble and Boo Hewerdine amongst others, but it has now been rescheduled to February. I have my complimentary tickets gift wrapped - (D's Boyfriend is a promoter) I also got some book tokens and a delightful evening with my family.

I consider myself one lucky girl - especially since, at the age of 5 I convinced myslef that there were two types of people in the world, children and grownups, and it was patently absurd to think that children could ever become grownups, it was impossible....(I think I've lived up to that ever since LOL)

Well here I am 45 years later - stiffer and older but not much wiser. Lucky in love and in friendship.

HUGS to my flist and hope you may all fare likewise.
