Burning with Indignation... might even be Righteous

About 2 months ago while at the library play group we met a young mom who had one little girl and another on the way and by the look of it any minute.  She was a nice enough lady and a couple of moms in our group got to know her.   Her husband is a louse and doesn't give her money for the kids, and she had to stop working as she is so close to her due date.   She told them she was upset that she wasn't going to have things ready for when the next baby came.   Because we are all moms with little kids, we felt sorry for her, so it was decided to throw her a little baby shower and chip in to get her some of things she needed.  Apparently she didn't have any of the things from the first baby because her husband made her get rid of them as they were too bulky and took up too much space.

While planning the shower to be at my house, my friend Lisa found that her neighbor had a double stroller she was not using anymore that was willing to sell to Lisa for $25 for this new lady.   She had used it, so the wheels were scuffed, but there weren't any stains, or dirt, in fact I was amazed that her neighbor was even willing to give it up.

These things run about $250, so we thought we had pulled off a prize.  We knew she already had a car seat that she had gotten from the firehouse, so we pooled about $125 together and got her a lot of clothes and items from Babies R Us and filled the stroller with all the gifts.  I also spent 2 hours making her a diaper cake, that I paid for.

The shower was two weeks ago, and Lisa ran into the lady at the Y today and just started talking to her.  It turns out she sold the stroller at the Consignment Shop because "she was really hoping to get a nicer one."  She continues that she really wants to get one with the baby car seat attachment and stuff.   She doesn't like the free one from the firehouse either as it doesn't have the detachable carrier, so she is hoping to get one of those too.  Apparently her coworkers are giving her another shower, and would we all like to come to that one too.

O.K.  Now, I know we did this to try and help out someone, and the stroller and gifts were hers to do with what she wanted, but EXCUSE ME....  You cry to all of us about how you really need things, and we go out of our way to help you, and it isn't good enough?  Please.  God knows I have a lot of very good friends and family who have given Blake a lot of very nice things along the way.  But we have also gotten things handed down from my sister and clothes from everyone who wanted to give them to us, and I was damn grateful to get them.

So, since we didn't do a good enough shower, would we all like to go to another and put up more gifts for her.

I can appreciate how she might want new things for a new baby, but honey, if hubby won't even buy milk for the kid you have now, you really think he is going to part with the money to get this new stroller.  Good luck.   I hope you get what you want from your co workers, because I am done.
