Piano Pounding Action in Franklin

Oct 23, 2008 13:58

I have always wanted to learn how to play the piano. I was in a few choirs throughout school and love music, but never quite had the opportunity/money to learn until now. We bought a used upright for $295 from an ad in the paper and now it sits proudly in my living room. It was in someones' storage unit for a few years, so it is desperately out of tune, but the wood is a pretty Cherry/Mahoganey color and not too bad. I will most likely polish it, but as it is only 50 degrees outside I will not be doing it anytime soon.

Blake has discovered the joy of climbing onto the bench, opening the lid, and pounding away to his heart's content. The guy who sold it to us also delivered it and thought he was being smart when he said "It has a nice lid you can close so the baby won't get into it." He had no sooner said that then little fingers walked right over, opened said lid and started "playing."

He is currently refusing to nap and playing, so I thought I would update as there is no way I can call people.

For those of us that grew up with the muppets, there are a couple of new skits floating around you tube that you may wish to search for.

Andy's D&D game is going well and adding new players every time he turns around. It is amazing how many people want to play and don't have an outlet in Podunk,  I mean  Franklin.  We have 8 regular players and some floaters here and there.  I think we almost have enough to break them into two sessions, but it wouldn't nearly be as fun or chaotic.  I usually make dinner for the group before they play, so it gets them at least one good meal every two weeks.

In other news, our heat was not working for the last few days. We finally got it working last night around 6:15 and my fingers are just starting to thaw out. I miss living in MD with the HVAC guy is my brother who would come over whenever I called.

The Passion Party stuff is starting to take off. We had a great Fall Fest and parties are going well, hence being able to buy the piano and for the first time since I quit, I will actually be able to buy Christmas presents for others. I love shopping and giving gifts. I have felt kinda crappy over the last few years, but I am excited to be able to do things for those I love.  Even if it is only gift cards for some.

Headhunting is also going well with a nice commission check paying off one of our credit cards this month. Yeah me!!

I sold 9 boxes of books to the used bookstore downtown. At a nickel a book, and a dime for some, it's not like I got a lot of money, but at least they're gone. There are still tons left in the house, but I refuse to give up books that I haven't read yet and want to.   As most were given to me by J'aime, I had the inside scoop on which series were good.  .

A friend of ours gave me her wedding china and I am now displayng that in our dining room. It  was very thoughtful of her to have picked a pattern 40 years ago that nicely matches my decor now. Noritaki China serving for 8 plus a bit here and there free to me. Sounds pretty good. They had been in moving boxes in her trunk for so long a few of the serving bowls were chipped, but I can pick those up on Ebay or the like.
We will be serving Thanksgiving here at our house for any and all that need a loud style dinner. I make tons of of food as I am never sure who will show up until they get here.   That Friday is decorate the house for Christmas, and general frivolity, most likely feed leftovers to the D&D crew.

My mom is flying in for Christmas on the 17th of December and is staying until the 7th of January.  We are having a party here in the 19th, then heading up to MD for about a week or so.

Then welcome in New Year.......  damn time flies....
